They probably don't want to advertise for Samsung the fact that 40% of the world's NAND among other things is built in the USA. I would say it makes Samsung look better than Apple.
It's crazy though how Samsung came out of nowhere though to control over 50% of the world's SSD market when they were not pioneer's in the tech.
No, not really.
For Apple, most of its NAND is manufactured by Hynix and shipped off to Foxconn to be married with Anobit controllers (owned by Apple of course). The DRAM Apple uses is, again, manufactured either in Korea by Hynix or Elpida in Japan, so not US origin. Only the processors are of US origin as far as the manufacturing is concerned. Everything is then shipped off to china for Foxconn to assemble.
In this day and age, to talk about national sourcing is mad! Even the Boeing dreamliner is 35% sourced from Japan. Various other components are sourced from an astounding number of countries. No point in trading off quality for substandard national products!
Samsung is a master at ramping up at low cost. If there is one winner of the DRAM wars of the last 15 years, it has been Samsung which literally crushed the others till only 2 other players were left standing. Samsung is investing heavily in SSD controllers and the generation after generation gain in robustness is astounding... We need more competition!!! But then someone, at least, is pushing the technology envelope...
