or clearances on old models at microcenter. they had some nice deals if you can't do edu discounts. They were better than the normal edu discounts, but not better than what our university offers on some things

even the edu discounts are just ok. that is how i got my macbook, but i only saved $100. So basically it canceled out the tax.

we get basically a dirt cheap 4 year applecare plan on certain configurations, so that really saves a lot for me, as I refuse to buy a long term laptop w/o extended warranty. it's saved me big once, and other folks I know as well.

Yea.. I didn't get the Applecare, but I plan on upgrading to the new model (IF one comes out at this year's WWDC). Then this machine will get relegated to my wife. And hers will be sold on eBay. So I probably will get Applecare before my 1 year warranty runs out. Although I just hate to spend that, but if the machine breaks once in its lifetime, it's worth it.

I am tempted to upgrade as a wedding present to myself and give the wife my macbook...see what she thinks. I really want an air even tho some people knock it.

Wait for the next revision. There are lots and lots of complaints about it overheating. The firmware update Apple sent out to address this issue didn't really do much. It's also a first generation product so unless you absolutely need it for the portability, it's best to wait.

They'll be refreshing it soon. ;)

Thanks for the replies.

Looks like a macbook this month. I know about the rumor's of a new one next month but unfortantly can not wait that long. She is going on a European trip and needs the laptop.

buy from amazon, no tax, free shipping, usually all notebooks have $75-$150 rebate from amazon, and you can do the amazon trick to get an additional 5% off. Thats were I would buy one from.

sales are infrequent with apple products
