What I don't understand is what is with the hype with the Mac os? I just don't understand, you've got a limited library of software (anyone who denies this needs their genitalia shot with a .45 calibre pistol and then shot point blank in their forehead), it's extremely bloated, there are no benefits to using it over Linux, unforseeable benefits to using it over windows, you MUST buy it with a mac, it's geared to the moron inside of all of us and the ACTUAL morons out there and has only recently become X86 compatible... It's just really difficult to see the benefit to using OSX over Linux or windows...
I don't want to hear garbage about the fact that it's 'more secure' because that is total bull ******, it's as secure as firefox is secure, it's secure on the premise that virus/malware writers are too lazy to look for exploits. It runs like ass on old hardware no matter how much ram you throw at it which I think is absolutely absurd.

There are no features that come with OSX that are special and or 'easier to do' than in XP.. Please go ahead, name something that is in OSX that is inherently easy and next to near impossible in XP, I bet you can at the maximum name 2 or 3, but even that is pushing it...
For a person who has used dos/windows practically his whole life (yes I've used macs, infact at one point I had to use one on a daily basis for about a semester), therefore making me a linux noob, I found linux surprisingly easy and fun to use. Only thing I've yet to figure out yet is installing programs, that is something they need to work on, but otherwise I thought things ran pretty smoothly and is similar to apple in that you've got a limited libray of software/hardware compatible drivers (though technically linux has more drivers in that it supports MANY motherboards etc..) so that in my mind brings OSX to the level of linux. But since it costs money and you HAVE TO buy a mac, that brings it significantly lower than linux in my book.
Customizeable.
Personally, linux is at the top of the chain compared to windows and OSX when it comes to customizing, you really can't be more customized than programming UI features... You can have installations of linux with what YOU WANT unlike windows or OSX, some situations call for a certain set of features and in the case allows one to run linux off a floppy, not possible with windows or OSX.
So in my mind.
Linux>Windows>OSX overall (Linux needs to work on program compatibility)
Windows>Linux>OSX Because it's compatible with all of the programs I run..

Anyway, enough BS. I fixed my problem by using a different XP disk, apparently mine was not even SP1 so it couldn't find the partition that OSX created. I used a burned copy that I (legally) got from college, so it wasn't labelled and being recent I assumed it was up to date, seems that it wasnt.

i seriously dont know what all the hype is about. Obviously virus/malware writers aren't going to try to bust into an OS that probably 15% of Computer Users use, they might as well hit the jackpot with Windows and get their word out. So with OSX being "so secure" lets see in about a year when more Mac users flood the market, in my opinion Apple is going to be the next target and they are asking for it. There is definitly no reason to buy pretty white Apple for almost 2x the price you can build a high end system to run WinXP or even Vista when it comes out. If Mac OSX worked with regular windows based pc's, you'll see some users switch, but the major problem with that is driver support. I can't even remember the last time my system crashed or had a virus/spyware with XP since first retail version. For the most part, its not the hardware or software its the user. Ah just another Windows user rant

I plan on buying a MacBookPro since it offers the best quality and performance for the money. I plan on running OSX since I prefer Linux at work. Am I a tool now? Am I stupid?

Yes. Ever heard of the thinkpad? With your logic, it appears you didn't. I know plenty of people who own apple notebooks (Ibook and Powerbook), their build quality is good initially but after a while, like most things from apple, it tends to rear it's ugly head when reality sits in and you realize that you've just purchased an overpriced product from apple.

You mght try changing your attitude a bit, you'll find life much easier to enjoy once you take things more lightly. Good nature never hurt anyone.
