Apple OSX Feature list mentions AMD support...

It's the last 'feature' in the "Other Features" section.

Given that it's based around Unix it's not exactly a surprise that they could implement AMD support... it most definitely IS a surprise that they actually mentioned it though.

For all the rumours of Apple going AMD over the years this is the first piece of evidence with any real validity in my mind. Though I still don't believe we will see any AMD based systems from Apple....

Wow, that's crazy!!

Could "Amd" != AMD ???

More specifically, Apple states "Amd support." Could that be something not related to Advanced Micro Devices??

Isn't jaguar already out? We would probably know if it supported AMD.

It would also most likely be considered something more than an "Other feature".

Well, it's very easy with the x86-64, AMD is the only company who makes it right now. :p

dont some servers have it though too? and why would they list amd and not amd hammer only, because if someone tries it with an athlon xp, wtf would happen then?

Did you read my post? Automount Daemon.

Anyways, maybe a Unix geek can explain this stuff, since I don't play around in the terminal.

That would be pretty interesting if they switched over the AMD CPUs. I would be a nice little steady source of income for AMD. However, I was thinking that "AMD Support" might mean support for Hypertransport; just another little bit of speculation.

Once and for all, this is a Unix feature (see earlier in thread) and it has nothing to do with Advanced Micro Devices.

Well that was shot down rather quickly.... assuming Eug is correct at least, and it seems likely he is.
I'm only vaugely familiar with AutoMount Daemon.. so it never even crossed my mind when I first read the page.

Ah well, add this one to the thousands of other failed rumours/speculation/mis-understanding's rgearding AMD + Apple over the years.

Sorry for the initial vague post. I didn't endeavour to explain it because I am GUI dependent, and even less than a Unix newbie.

Posted here too a few days ago.

It's a daemon that automatically mounts file systems as soon as anything attempts to access any files/directories within the filesystem.... I don't know much more about it then that though.

Eh.. one reason why I see Apple never putting AMD CPU support into their snazzy iMac models is because it would kill thermal design. Jumping from a 20 watt heat processor to a 60 watt processor isn't a terribly good idea. I could imagine them using Tualatins or low end or mobile northwoods..

But yeah.. I think they'll be sticking with PPC for now. Less Migration. Less costs. Less heat. Less noise. All of this equals more $$ from happier customers.

Woohoo! Apple supports AMD!!!

AMD RuLeZ!

I always hate it when you have to type in the mount command manually. hehe
