I 100% embrace the Apple cult. They buy these hugely overpriced items, which creates demand and allows another company to release a similar product for half the price. The end result is that more stuff is available to me for less money. I'll probably get flamed for this, but I see it as being similar (not the same) to buying a $500 graphics card. The enthusiasts support tech before it goes mainstream at a much higher price.

The flaw in your logic is that it isn't "enthusiasts" that support Apple electronics, it is the mainstream user.

How do you think Apple has a ~75% market share of MP3 players with the iPod if only "enthusiasts" but Apple products?

I hate Macs because I just assume all people who use Macs are smug/arrogant assholes. They need you to notice that they prefer Macs. They use stupid Apple stickers to point that fact out on their vehicles.

With that being said, I'm now considering a 13" Macbook Pro mainly because I know I can sell it with no problem at all once I'm ready to upgrade. Mac people are Mac people forever... and they will prop up my resell market forever. Suckers.

This is true, which is why I said similar. Also, you're extrapolating my post to mp3 players, when I really only meant to comment on the iPad which we can probably agree is a niche product. I doubt Apple will attain 75% market share with the iPad.

In the case of the iPad 1 million sales, I would love to know what % are Apple fanboys who will buy anything Apple (yes, including the Jobs crap in a bag reference) vs. what % are just average consumers.

The same was said of the iPhone and Apple is now the the largest phone maker in the US and the 3rd largest globally.

You can keep living under your little PC rock but that won't change the outcome in the real world.

My guess is a lot of average consumers, I damn near have to go hide in a corner to use mine in public so I don't have to keep asking for it back.

Doesn't that just mean the average consumer does NOT have one? You're an Apple fan. You own one. The average consumers just want to see it but haven't purchased (per your own experience).

"There's probably a belief that 'This person is like me, at some level they get it,'" Muniz said. With Apple users, "there might be an assumption that there are shared values on a whole range of things, but certainly on computing," he said.

can't idiots find each other without having to spot each other as iUsers?

i mean, you can't swing a dead cat without finding someone dumb enough to want/need an apple product.

Eh? I'm talking about the iPad. Not my Windows-based personal computer vs. your Snow Leopard personal computer.

You are not curious at all about the sales trends?

Sigh, I'm not an "Apple fan", I'm an Apple investor and a "tablet fan" I have never owned an mp3 player or an Apple OS'd PC, have had a handful of first gen iPhones, but.

And that's a fine example of the BS Apple owners put up with, I have 2 HD2's, a BB, Nexus One, W7 HTPC, a couple of W7 OS'd Dell notebooks, a netbook, and 1 fucking iPad, and I get labeled an Apple fanatic.

Eh? I said FAN not FANATIC. That's your wording my friend. I know you're an Apple investor (as you point it out quite frequently), hence, an Apple fan. I know I'm a fan in anything I have money tied up in as it is human nature.

So now that you understand where I'm coming from, how about addressing the point instead of making an assumption that I'm trying to classify you as a brainless Apple fanatic? As an investor I would think you would be more interested in the sales trends than most others in this thread and I'm not talking about the 'X sold in Y time' type trends. I'm talking about learning 'who is x'.

Apple consumer products (non-computer) aren't aimed at power users.
People on forums like these are more typically power users.
Therefore they don't typically get along with most Apple products.

And we're all humans.
And an iPad isn't a computer, and if it is a computer, it's junk (Jobs' own words).
And a Mac is a PC.

perhaps you should've bought the superior product for less than half the price, and you wouldn't have that problem.

x=average consumers

That's who the iPad was geared towards, and you haven't seen anything yet....

Apple is notorious for understating sales data till their quarterly earnings info comes out, the real figure is likely closer to 2 million iPads sold domestically, no international sales yet except gray market (and there's a pretty robust gray market for iPads right now)

Wanting an iPad is one thing. Waiting in line for one overnight, camped out for no reason makes you an idiot. When you know you will be able to get one no problem either online or just a day or two later, you're going to waste that much time?

This goes for anything, not just Apple products. Except I don't see this with anything else, only Apple products. This obviously means that Apple fanatics have no life and/or no job.
