Apple MoBo Form Factor?

My Mac friends are all jealous and envious of my gaudy modded case with all the lights and whatnot. A couple are interested in doing interesting things with their Macs. I'd heard somewhere the on the G4 and G5 towers, the MoBo is actually very close to ATX in form factor, close enough, I heard, to be able to adapt an ATX case to accept a Mac MoBo.

I've got a dead G4 tower to work with, but haven't started dissasembling it yet.

Anyone know about Apple MoBo form factor, or have an idea where to look?

I put one of the original G4 motherboards into an ATX case. I remember having to drill a couple holes in the motherboard tray and you need to make a custom backplane since the ports definitely don't meet ATX standards. It isn't the prettiest thing in the world but I was mainly interested in getting >1 5.25" drive bay and I got that.

The G5s have a very different motherboard layout so I'd be wary of those sinnce they seem to be much larger than the G4s...

As gaidin123, all you have to do is match up your mount holes. You could also take the port cover from your G4 to trace out a new cover for the ports. Personally, I don't think I've ever seen a PC case that looked better than Apple's G4 cases, but to each his/her own eh?

I used to agree with you, as I loved the Powermac G4 cases. The new G5 towers look cheap and ugly IMHO compared to the newer Coolermaster and Lian Li aluminum cases (at least the Lian Li's that didn't completely rip off the G5 design). The CM Stacker is especially nice. Plus, you actually have room to fit a decent amount drives into the PC cases. It is pretty sad that as big as the the G5 case is, it can only fit two hard drives and an optical.
