Apple is now the worlds largest smartphone vendor

Considering Nokia total phone share is so large due to feature phones sold in third world countries, I doubt Jobs cares that much. Smartphones are the growth product in general cell phone terms.

I dunno about the whole world but in my town (which is lower middle income) smart phones are far more common than any other.
Unless theres a whole line of large touchscreen dumbphones I dont know about.

Apple sorts out what they're going to sell, and ties up suppliers with orders, locks in great costs for parts etc, ties up the supply and rakes in the cash.

Since their products have fairly long and predictable lives and production runs, the aftermarket and 3rd party suppliers love them and make a ton of accessories for apple products.

The new generation of "ultrabooks" are having problems competing on price with the current generation of MB Airs. Same kind of supply chain management helps with the iPhone profit margins.

The real money makers are the companies that make the parts that apple glues together and calls a phone.
