Apple iPod crossfade function available or coming soon?

I've looked and haven't found a crossfade function on the iPods...

Is there any way to edit the damn thing to crossfade, or is it something that I'll just have to wait for apple to maybe possibly add later on...?

Edit: well if they haven't had any one suggest it to them, I suggested a nice little comment to apple:

"The only thing that the iPod lacks from being perfect, is a crossfade function. For those of us who love music that never stops, this is one thing that needs to be added to CURRENT versions of ipods, not just the new ones that come out later on. It needs to be added in a new software update.

Thanks."

You know the wonderful crossfade function in winamp? That's what I'm talking about... I don't care how music crossfades or different tempo's or any crap like that, I just don't need to listen to 20 seconds of music lingering down at the end of the song and then 20 seconds of intro on the next song.

Well, I would think a 20 second crossfade is a little too much (if that's what you are wanting), but I agree that a crossfade should be standard issue in all MP3 players nowadays. I enjoy crossfading quite a bit in the applications I use on my comp.

With that said, iPod's are overpriced, and I don't know why everyone goes all crazy over them.

no, I didn't mean 20 second crossfading... I have winamp set to 7 seconds...

yes, iPods are overpriced, and we're all stupid for owning them.. but damnit... they're nice.

Only thing? How about a battery that is exchangable, lasts more than 6 hours, and a unit under 300? And also howabout support for different file format. Far from perfect..

The thing about crossfade is that it requires decoding 2 streams at once, something most MP3 players can't handle since their DSPs aren't powerful enough for the task(less powerful DSP = less power using DSP).

PS mrgoblin, a different file format? It supports MP3 WAV and AAC; what else do you want?

Wma would be nice. Anyone who uses encoding format mixing programs that end up in wma arent too happy about having to encode all their music to work in the ipod. Seems like a gimme to me

WMA is a Microsoft format, and let's face it, Apple isn't about to start giving MS a share of their iPod revenue, so I don't see that happening any time soon.

I suppose a crossfade feature is something they could add in a future firmware update. Heck, iTunes has a crossfade feature, so why shouldn't the iPod? Come to think of it, I never noticed that it lacked the feature.

Apple regularly updates the iPod's firmware I know for sure, because I use my iPod only ocassionally and almost every time I plug it into my PowerBook there's a software update available for it.

Not having crossfade doesn't really bother me. What really bothers me about the iPod is the fact that the battery doesn't last nearly as long as Apple advertises (I'm lucky to get 4 hours from my 10 gig). My old Nomad Zen had much better battery life, but it lacked Mac support, so I ended up selling it to get the iPod. I guess that everything is a sacrifice.

You can't compare WinAmp to the iPod. FYI, iTunes has crossfading. WinAmp=iTunes.
