Apple is clearing out their current models of iMacs in preparation for the new models being released next month.

They are offering a free Rio mp3 player OR 6 months no interest and no payments.

Offer is good until July 8th.

Also, you get a free printer (Epson 580) OR $69 off higher model Epson printers.

Sweeeet! :p

I hope not, I want the next iBook to be even tighter ... It makes no sense for me to buy a new iMac to replace my original 1998 iMac rev B (which is showing it's age) since I already have a Dell Dimension 4100 with 19" FD Trinitron monitor. I'd rather have a really fast iBook.

The iBook is already pretty nice -- I thought of posting it at regular price as a hot deal... I mean, it is :)

if you have nothing informative or productive to say, then please don't say anything at all

How in the world did you become a senior member? I hope it wasn't by posting ignorant messages like that.

Anyone have info on the new Macs being released? My girlfriend's parents are going to buy her an iMac for graduation (I've tried so hard to convince them to buy a PC, but to no avail...so if you can't beat 'em, join 'em), and I was wondering if they should get in on this deal or not. Or would it be more beneficial to them to get one of the new iMacs?

Thanks.

EDIT: spidey, where did you find this information??

You have Apple to thank for all the USB items hooked up to your computer, as they were the first to adopt the technology TOTALLY. I do not have a Mac, but I appreciate all that Apple has done for PC. Tired of all the BLAH beige cases and devices? Thank iMac. Like to download MiniDV movies via Firewire? Thank Apple.

Microsoft is NOT GOING TO INCLUDE SUPPORT FOR USB 2.0 IN WINDOWS XP. The will support IEEE-1394 fully however. USB 2.0 is just coming up to Firewire speed, with Firewire set to make a HUGE jump in bandwidth. Thank Apple again.

Cross-Platform devices like USB CDRW's, Mice, Scanners and Printers are only here because it was more profitable to make a device that supported both PC and Macs, with different drivers both on one disc. And the devices are better because of it. Don't knock Mac, we PC users have a lot to be thankful for.

Crap, Apple soon to invade a town near you...

"5 down. 95 to go.

Apple is opening retail stores. Here?s why:

Apple currently has around 5% market share in personal computers. This means that out of one hundred computer users, five of them use Macs. While that may not sound like a lot, it is actually higher than both BMW?s and Mercedes-Benz?s share of the automotive market. And it equals 25 million customers around the world using Macs.

But that?s not enough for us. We want to convince those other 95 people that Macintosh offers a much simpler, richer and more human-centric computing experience. And we believe the best way to do this is to open Apple stores right in their neighborhoods. Stores that let people experience firsthand what it?s like to make a movie right on a Mac. Or burn a CD with their favorite music. Or take pictures with a digital camera and publish them on their personal website. Or select from over 300 software titles, including some of the best educational titles for kids. Or talk to a Macintosh ?genius? at our Genius Bar. Or watch a demonstration of Mac OS X, our revolutionary new operating system, on our theater?s giant 10-foot diagonal screen.

Because if only 5 of those remaining 95 people switch to Macs, we?ll double our market share and, more importantly, earn the chance to delight another 25 million customers.

Here we go?"

dont let them get an imac now. The new ones are being announced (most likely) in the next mac conference in early july. (Even mac-haters (who exist for some reason) may like to look at the new models!) Apple has eliminated tubes and are going fully on flat panels so most likely the next imac will sport an LCD which will be really cool. Since its a grad gift she wont need it for a few weeks so its better to wait.

And if they want the old imac still they can enjoy the price cuts that follow new product announcements.

(but if i were to get an imac now i'd just go for an ibook instead. The ibooks are HOT, cheap and feature packed. Plus in college laptops rule (unless youre a major gamer which i assume she isnt). Just make sure to get a kensington lock for it...

When does your girlfriend's parent need to buy her new iMac by? The new iMacs will most likely be introduced during MacWorld New York which is in a few weeks (July). The current $1,499 iMac is a really good bargain considering it's a reasonably fast PowerPC G3/500, 64MB RAM, 20GB Hard Drive, 16MB ATI RAGE 128 graphics card, FireWire, USB, 56k mode, 10/100 Ethernet, AirPort ready, CD-RW, and the following applications:
Software Mac OS 9.1, Mac OS X (8), QuickTime, iMovie 2, iTunes (4), AppleWorks 6, Microsoft Internet Explorer, Microsoft Outlook Express, Netscape Communicator, Quicken Deluxe 2001, Palm Desktop, FAXstf, Cro-Mag Rally, Bugdom, and Nanosaur. Most applications are preinstalled. Product contains electronic documentation. Backup copy of software is provided on CD-ROM.
Hardware Accessories All models include Apple Pro Keyboard; Apple Pro Mouse; FireWire camcorder cable; modem cable; locking cable fastener; Apple Hardware Test CD; complete setup, learning, and reference documentation.
Limited Warranty
and Service One-year Limited Warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. Review a copy of the Limited Warranty on new products, including its limitations and exclusions.
Internet Access All models also include 30 days of free Internet service through EarthLink. Internet access requires an Internet service account.

If your girlfriend's parents can WAIT until late August to early September that's when the new iMacs should available for purchase and the current iMacs should drop in price anywhere from $100-$300. I'm just wondering how the iMac will change, it's long overdue for a major rehaul since it's introduction August 15, 1998.

Okay, i'll stop contributing to this guys anti-mac feelings. But this is a good example of how ignorant people can be to things they dont understand. The rainbow logo hasnt been used for years. The company has changed a bit so its worth it to take a look instead of just harboring anger.I could understand the animosity caused by rivalry between pc's and macs 5 years ago but to be this spiteful now is just weird.

My problem with people that are anti-"anything" is that every product has a market. So unless you have experience with it then why drive someone away from a particular item.

I don't hate the Mac, I was just having fun at the expense of the Mac zealots that would obviously be attracted to this deal. Some of you take this Mac -vs- PC thing way to seriously. Lighten up!

I would recommend waiting for the new iMacs coming at Macworld Expo NY. The new iMac is expected to be a major redesign from the current one (it will essentially be the first major iMac revision--it will probably not resemble the current iMac at all) and will most likely have, as mentioned above, a 14" LCD display. Plus, Apple has been working on this upgrade for some time so it's bound to have some cool feature that hasn't been leaked yet. Anyone who buys an iMac before Macworld will probably be very jealous of the new iMacs and be disappointed that s/he didn't wait. Plus, with this being a major revision, the old iMac prices will plummet fast and hard after the expo. So I'd say wait a month. . . .

That is SO TRUE! Think about it, if you're willing to pay the current iMac prices ($999 - $1699) why not wait until August and pay the same price but get a NEWER FASTER machine!

snowairg - That would be a wise choice, hopefully the new iMacs will be in circulation by the end of August. If it does include a 14" LCD that would be so sweet, I'm hoping for a better designed chasis also. Although I hear the newest iMacs make upgrading the RAM a breeze. Do the current iMacs take regular 'ole plain PC100 SDRAM or does it have to be low profile or anything weird like that?
