Looks pretty darn bland to me. If that's designed to be a HTPC, I'd say it's a pretty poor design. Who has a HT setup that a white box like that would integrate well into? If I put that on my black rack with all my black components, that thing would stick out like a sore thumb and look like a My First Sony toy. If you're a 17 year old college girl in dorm, it might suit you, otherwise...

It's not Mac fanatics anymore. iPod made Apple mainstream and their digital convergence strategy is working. Apple is pioneering and doing what Microsoft and Sony wanted to do.

Apple and Microsoft are not competing companies. One is a software company, the other a hardware company that happens to write software to run on their own hardware. The Ipod is a huge success because it was a highly functional product that no one else has really been able to compete with. Obviously I have not seen this Media Centre in action, but how unique can you make one of these devices? Apple PC's and the IPod have had largely popular exterior designs, but they are also standalone devices which allows for more freedom in design. For a HTPC, it almost always has to integrate into a group of components which means it should look at least in color like the rest of the system. This thing looks like no A/V component I've ever seen. When practically all TV's and components in North America are either black or silver (black and champagne elsewhere), why would you want a white box like that? The front of the device is so nondescript that you can't even tell what it is or does by looking at.

There's nothing interesting in the video. All it is is a low quality video of a hand picking up the device out of the box and showing the top of it. If you're still dying to watch it, the quicktime player plays it.

Microsoft Xbox, Xbox2, pocketPC, tabletPC, and WebTV are Microsoft's attempt at digital convergence. Same with Sony and their PS, PS2, PS3, and PSP. Steve Jobs outlined Apple's digital convergence strategy back in 2000 with iMovie, iPhoto, and later iPod, and now iHome.

I don't know anything about this iHome but I do know HTPC is gaining popularity and everyone from Microsoft, Sony, and Apple wants piece of that topset market.

Debating the functionality of a device we know nothing about but its name and who its competing products are seems like a waste of time to me, so I'm not going to bother with that. All I'm saying, is that the exterior design, though very "Applesque" is quite poor for a set top box intended to be integrated into a HT setup.

None of those devices you named above except for WebTV are set top devices either. How on earth is the PSP, Pocket PC or Tablet PC even remotely considered one? The others are video game consoles, pure and simple, no matter what the marketing departments want you to believe.

It certainly wouldn't be the first time that someone went through a huge effort to make a fake Apple product. The "iWalk" was a similar situation.

With an accompanying video of someone taking one out of the box and showing the actual item. That's a pretty elaborate hoax for someone to actually make a product that looks that polished. It certainly does not look like some advanced mod of something else that someone could make in their basement.
