Apple finally released a hardware fix to the iPhone 4

Yeah, well we know how that scale is. Something like 51-93db is a 5 bar rating.

Right, and in Anand's article, he states that the drop could be as much as 24db...that's enough to potentially drop from 5 bars all the way to 0 bars, and certainly enough to take you from 4 bars to 0 bars.

Fail design is still fail. A ring of plastic around the antennas, while not aesthetically pleasing, would have prevented the issue.

Well, a coating on the antennas would have probably prevented this. I don't know why it wasn't done.

I'll still buy the damn thing anyway if I have the money, and I will put it in a case. I think the iPhone 4 would look good with a white case on the white phone.

I can't understand what you're saying. I'm reading this on my iphone and it keeps cutting off the messages because I keep touching the sides.

Here's a guy demonstrating the problem with a key. Touching Both sides of the antenna with anything that conducts (ie human skin) causes it to fuck up.

Does Apple even hire engineers these days? You'd think someone with a degree would notice that shorting out or changing the length of an antenna causes it to a not work properly.

they care more about it looking sexy than actually working well

form > function in Apple's world

I'm pretty sure Steve will personally guarantee these and give them free to all iPhone 4 owners, to apologize for the reception fiasco. His name will probably grace these products.

iHandJobs for everyone!

omg priceless!!!!!!!!

D: Watch out for PETA!!! 😀

Eh. I didn't buy it yet, but if I do, this doesn't really worry me much. Thinking back with my iPhone 3G, I don't think i've ever held it in such a way that my hand blocks the lower left corner.

I always hold the phone with my fingers, regardless of which hand it is in, and in what mode I am using the phone.

If I thought that my hand would touch the lower left corner though, I definitely wouldn't buy it.

Meanwhile, something like four million iPhone 4s have been sold and the only ones really complaining about reception problems are butthurt Android fanboys.

What more can I say than:

So what you're saying is that a bunch of Android fanboys are buying iphones just so they can post videos on youtube showing what a piece of shit the iphone is?

No, but a bunch of fandroids keep posting those videos everywhere and making threads like these, where they actual iPhone 4 owners who had to squeeze their phones to make the signal drop for a video went on to just use the phone because it's awesome.

With millions of devices out there if this were indeed a major issue there would be a riot mob outside of every Apple Store.

You are completely void of being able to laugh at anything remotely poking fun at Apple. That has to suck so bad man. Lighten up. A joke on Apple is not a personal insult directed towards you.

Actually, at this point I'm all but convinced that dwell is either related to Steve Jobs, or he is actually Steve Jobs, so it is a personal insult directed towards him.

JD,

Not a big deal.

As far as I care ... if you spend money on an iPhone 4 and these issues are actually issues, you can not afford an iPhone 4. People needing a phone for busienss don't need a new iPhone immediately and if they do, they are not very savvy busienssman.

Why do people get such a kick out of pointing out the flaws in Apple products? They seem to get all giggly and aroused, it's kinda perverted. Just don't buy an iPhone, no one's forcing you to! Is it the nerd in you getting annoyed that the "normals" buy a product that you don't endorse? Are you trying to convince everyone that your moto-flip is badass compared to their lame iPhone? Calling them i-drones make you feel better about not getting a date ...ever? Besides, Apple's not the only famous company that releases phones with issue- I've had awful experiences with Samsung phones, I was so pissed off with my Omnia that I broke contract and spent hundreds to get over the mistake. And have you dorks tried the iPhone 4? It's a lovely phone that has a great screen, feels wonderful in your hand, and the camera's the closest I've seen as a p&s compact replacement (though sony's are nifty too). Sure, there will be issues - but Apple has proven time and again that you shouldn't by a .0 product by punishing early adopters with price and fit and finish issues. Though they're not alone in this practice, just look at the xbox 360s. Doesn't make it right, but it's kinda the norm these days. My palm pre had tons of niggling issues, some of which were never resolved... It's just how tech works theses days - wait for iPhone 4.1! But is it really so noteworthy that we have to see thread after thread about how this best selling device sucks?

I own a droid and like my droid, but I'd be lying if I said it was without issue. I love android and will continue to support the platform, but choice is good and iPhone 4 changed the game enough to make forward facing cameras a base requirement, and I'm ok with that!

Sweet, apple bashing!
This is one bandwagon that I can get on board time and time again.

Apple has a habit of sticking all of it's resources into marketing and design, and very very little into engineering...
