Yep, Apple Care is awesome, and Apple recognized a few years ago that they can provide awesome service, make money, and will likely keep a customer for a very long time.
I have never had to use Apple Care, but am damn impressed with my 13" MBA.
Stupid gateway drugs of iPhones and iPads... got me hooked and made me buy a killer laptop. I hated laptops primarily because of the horrible touchpads and drivers, I can't go back to them now after the MBA.
I just picked up a crapload of Apple stock to ride into earnings next month, hope I guessed right.
I'm glad you're happy, and it's cool they would do such a thing, but the only reason they did it is because extended warranties don't cost them much. They sell you on the idea that, oh noes, if it breaks after the MFGer warranty expires it will be expensive to fix, which is true for laptops, because the vendor (ie apple) controls the parts. But in reality, the parts don't cost them much at all. This is why computer mfgers have wised up and started offering extended warranties. They know the percentage of failure and determine that it's a money maker to offer extended warranties on things that don't break that often.
Now if the Apple care covers physical damage, then it's a killer deal. Just drop it in the bathtub the day before the extended warranty expires and get a new laptop 😀
You got the 13 inch Air too eh? sweet isn't it?
11" Air here, went from an OG MacBook (13") to a 12" PowerBook G4 to this one finally. I guess my only option from here is to get an iPad (10") 😉
Best Apple laptop I have ever used, and since I prefer their aesthetic and OS, I would say best laptop I have ever used period. There are more powerful systems, there are better 'business' computers (whatever the hell that means) definitely systems better suited for gaming, but for my money (and it was my money) the Air is the best just all around LAPTOP out there. It epitomizes what it is to be a laptop. Light, powerful enough, FAST, and just delightful to use. The keyboard and trackpad are just top notch, and with the wedge it is very comfortable to use.
I just wish I could use it for my job, I think that it would do a sight better than my e6410 at work.
Apple service always blows my mind. One of the reasons why I stick with them for my phones/tablets. I am so close to buying MBA 13.3 inch right now...
Macbook Air 13" i7... the perfect laptop. Weights nothing, has gobs of horsepower, fast as a bullet with the SSD, and comes with an SD slot for pictures. Plus it has Thunderbolt.
Don't mind the haters. I spent $2500 on an iMac i7 with thunderbolt and upgraded the HD to a 256GB SSD and the RAM to 16GB. I posted about it on another forum where everyone laughed and said they could get a similar machine for $800. I don't care if it's true or not, it's a beautiful machine and will last me a long long time.
I view it as an old Mustang 5.0 vs. Porsche 911. One costs a lot less and will probably go faster, but that doesn't mean it's the better car.
I keep reading all these reports about how awesome Apple's customer service is. I must be the one person in the world that's had nothing but bad experiences... I'm incredibly unlucky with them.
I've had the Air for exactly one month now, I take pleasure in all new gadgets but this computer is different, I still smile every time I go to pick it up. I adore the keyboard (how did I ever live without back lighting?) and still cannot get over how light & quiet this system is. I've only heard the fan once, when I had about 10 browser tabs open and was watching Youtube.
My old Windows laptop was/ is a fairly nice core duo system, upgraded to 8 GB ram and an SSD drive it will provide many more months of service.. but it pales when placed next to the Air. This IMHO is what a mobile computer should look and feel like.

When did they add backlit keyboard? It isn't listed as a spec on their website.

Also if you want more transparency while listening to music, you can try upping the sampling rate in the Audio/MIDI controller. That's another perk of a Mac computer that you don't get in a PC. Most PC (laptops especially) come equipped with onboard sound cards that are barely good enough for music listening. But oh no, not on a Mac. You can up the usual 44.1kHz 16-bit goodness to 96kHz 32-bit on all modern Mac (Macbook Air included), and with the upconversion technique that Apple uses, sound quality is markedly better.
You do realise they use the same codec wired in much the same way as many Windows notebooks, don't you? :whiste:
