Just wanted to put the linux fanboi two cents in.

Linux has NOWHERE near the usablility of OSX.

I love my Apple, it is my second one. They have all worked well and done what I have expected them to do. I work all do as an Network Admin and I do not want to have to deal with stupid wintel problems when I get home.

Depends on what you use it for.My systems basically double as a email/word processing machine/mp3/video player and a number cruncher (math major). I have two different kernel configs/boot scripts for each.As well as a different windowing enviroments for each. One is all bells and whistles and eyecandy. The other is barely more than a terminal. Can I do this with MAC?Maybe I can but I cant do it on some old P111 I might have laying around.

All those arguements like you dont use your pc as a tool dont work.

perhaps, but when it comes down to it, thats the only real advantage of the pc. slightly less cost, and games. for that you sacrifice build quality/design.

just look at the threads on the imac. most who complain are the ones wondering if it'll run doom3 basically:p

Games are not the only advantage of a PC, at least not with me. AutoCAD, Mechanical Desktop, Solidworks, CATIA, Pro/E, Inventor, 3D Studio Max and quite a few other programs are Windows specific. For whatever reason, I have no idea, but until there is a mac version of any of these programs (a good version, not some half-assed garbage with the same name stuck on it), macs are useless to me. With that said, macs are nice computers and if it works for you more power to you.

still, when u think about it thats a pretty weak arguement. just how many gamers run autocad? mchanical desktop? catia? etc etc etc? .1%? for most people a mac is fine.

I have to say that your argument was even weaker. He was not saying that gamers run these programs. Where is your information to back up that beacuse someone uses autocad, catia, etc that they dont play games in their spare time? He was saying that Macs don't support the programs he uses.

it doesn't matter what autocad users do on their spare time. they are such a small % they are irrelevant. the thing that is being argued about is whether a mac gets what needs to be done for most people.

Yes well you seemed to be wanting to argue about that when it was not even his point. PCs also get things done for most people...plus you can get things done with programs that are not released for the Mac OS.

point is design/interface over simple brute speed and cheapness. we're past the point where one has to buy a nice pc to juggle office apps and browsing without hickups. its like how the ipod does what it needs to very well, while others are trying to incorporate video and other uselessness into unusable bricks.

macs are mostly for people who dont really know what they are doing and need an over simplified, overpriced fancy looking computer to check their e-mail, play mp3s and browse the web. "Wow honey, look at the pretty colors these computers come in!!" (Bring on the flames!) yes there are the people that use it for graphics editing but as we discussed you can already do that on the PC.

This is pretty funny.

Are you really a moron or do you just play one on AT? You do a really horrible job of hiding your bias, at least you could pretend like you are reading the points that people have made.

all the people that have bought dell, should have bought macs. all the people who barely know what to do on a pc, should have bought macs. all the people that dont know they have a billion peices of spyware on there computer, should have bought macs. basically all the people who just use office/aim/mail/web(thats a lot of people), should have bought macs. all the people who need to get work done with no fuss and no hassle, should have bought macs. for the price, they out last pc's. but instead, pc's were cheaper.

70% of the people who use computers dont know what they are doing, they should have bought a mac.

you'll just never understand.

Microsoft would be in hog heaven if they had the convience of developing an OS for a handful of hardware platforms, as opposed to millions of different possible combinations of hardware and network platforms.

Sure they would.

And I am sure Apple likes things exactly the way that they are. If you were Apple, would you do it any differently?

How exactly is the engineering/drafting industry irrelevant? I can see where home users don't count, but thousands and thousands of companies worldwide is hardly irrelevant.

I don't care why people prefer Macs over PC's. I don't understand why people WOULD care why people care. I also don't understand why Apple even tries to compete with Microsoft. Its like Ferrari trying to compete with Ford for a share in the mainstream daily driver vehicle market. Apple is also in a unique position to where it manufactures the computer AND the operating system. I guarantee you if Microsoft did that, this discussion would be null as Apple would have gone bankrupt years ago.

Nope. They are thriving in their niche market. I don't see why they feel the need to try and compete with Microsoft, however.

My aluminum PC case isn't sturdy enough to hold up my work bench in the basement. My two powermac cases work just fine :)

the user interface is beautiful. far more stable than windows. WAY better than a windows box if you know/use bsd/linux and want to port things back and forth. no hardware issues like often come up with linux/bsd. I run windows/apple/and linux systems. For normal use I like the apple the best (its a powerbook). It is the best laptop I have ever had by far. I still run all the systems though. Macs just cant keep up with the games, (although warcraft 3 works just as good on my powerbook as my pc), and i use linux for work/programming which works together with os x 100%.

These threads are always hilarious if not just plain sad sometimes.

Many people criticizing and praising an option, with exception of course, have no idea what the hell they are talking about.

From my experience, choosing between a Mac or a PC is just like choosing between a "a DeWalt Drill vs. a Milwaukee." The vast amount of detail required for a legitimate and adaquate comparison is usually omitted or ignored.

Stop these damn threads.

No one cares what you little pipsqueaks say anymore, with exception of course. Look at both PCs and Macs, consider what you can afford, consider which tool will perform favorably under your circumstances, consider which one is more flexible, consider which one is more stable....

and in the end, it is quite clear that the odds of purchasing a computer that will NOT be able to do what you want it to do are very slim either way.

The steel Antec which houses my PC could hold up both of them, your work bench, and you. What about it?

They don't. Apple is a hardware company first.
