This is good news. Hopefully it becomes more than 'one of its existing lines'

May as well.

They already price them as if they were made by people making an honest wage.

He means assembled. Apple doesn't make any of the actual components in their Computers.

Right, all he has to do is use the war between states and cities to pay Apple to produce there. They pay 75000 in tax dollars lost for every 25000 a year job. Corporations don't need federal subsidies any more. They have learned how to suck the dicks of states and cities. Good old scum ball Texas is about the worst.

It is funny though, Apple is already starting to get shit from people claiming this isn't a big deal because none of the components are made in the US, components that Apple doesn't make nor could make.

In the end, this just means more US jobs, which is a good thing.

Probably because they've got the assembly so automated that they just need to employ people to load parts on the front end and load packaged macs onto trucks on the back end. Probably don't even need to have lights on in the main manufacturing facility.

Seeing the Apple stocks get pounded in the recent weeks, Apple will pull any announcement out of its ass at this point.

Apple CEO Tim Cook announces plans to manufacture Mac computers in USA. That's great news for the manufacturing community! I hope this trend continues!

Good news indeed!

This :)

Sounds like a lot of minimum wage jobs.

Quite possibly, but I hope not.

Except that the imacs that they just released are already assembled here, so this isn't just an announcement, it has already happened.

Hopefully it creates decent American jobs and it's not just something stupid like snapping in a harddrive to claim it's assembled in the USA to drive more sales.

I wasn't aware that Asus was an American manufacturer which is the crux of the OP.

You didn't ask what American Computer manufacturer does. I know Dell did a lot of their custom assembly here in the US up till 2010 but all the components were still made overseas.

If it's the iMac line, based on the internals and how much the assembly is automated this may not result in that many jobs.

Apple had a very high tech assembly plant in the US in Fremont, CA up until 1992.
Apple still owns the building, and all of the orignal equipment is still inside (from the soruces I have read)
There were talks about attempting to get the facility registered as a California historic site, or something similar. Due to its significance in high tech manufacturing.

Watch the videos there, the process is rather impressive for being done in the late 80s.

True, You seem like the type of person who would argue with a mannequin. Care to over any substance on the OP?
