apple makes the best non-computer products in the industry. you'd have to kill me before I use a mac, but I'm very happy with my ipod and ipod touch. my sister's iphone is pretty damn amazing to use as well, way smoother than my blackberry.

There's a difference between a price premium and shady practices. Apple's products are often at a higher price than comparable products from other companies, but often Apple at least adds extra fit and finish to the products.

Bose OTOH has some shady practices. First off, you have to buy them at the Bose store. Where are the Bose stores located? In shopping malls where there aren't any competitors nearby. Second, their marketing is somewhat shady as well. Saying that their little cube speakers sound as good as the competitors' larger speakers is a flat-out lie.

If Bose products suck, then why do people buy them? Because it's BOSE, man!!! They market like crazy and get people to believe that Bose really is good. Studies have been done that show people liking Bose speakers over other companies' speakers in an open-eyed test, but liking the other companies' speakers more in a blind test.

Apple produces good products at a price premium. They have honest marketing practices (well, as honest as any other non-Bose company). And they don't try to claim that their Macbook that cost $50 to produce is worth $1,000 and performs better than similarly priced desktops.

In other words Apple != Bose.

worst comparison ever.
bose exists in an industry where there is no transparency and where marketing rules the day because the consumer is left in the dark. very few objective/scientific tests of audio quality and measuring stats is near impossible for the consumer. not boses fault, but bose stepped into that gap with their sometimes underwhelming products.

apple is nothing like that. they compete in a very competitive market where everything is gone over with a fine toothed comb, people even rip their products apart so everyone can see inside:p http://gizmodo.com/5451242/show-and-sell-the-secret-to-apples-magic has a good writeup on why apple succeeds. they don't spend their time spitting out prototypes and tech demos of sh*t they'll never sell you like most companies which only says fail to the consumer in many ways. when they bring something out, they let you buy it right away.

exactly....having worked for an audio company AND Bose (yes, I worked for the dark side)....I was surprised to find out that with in the audio industry, there is no standard on how to test. What is even worse is all those specs you see in the back of the packaging.... There is no standard on how you test for the numbers. Essentially, the whole industry is a numbers game, which is why Bose does not use those numbers and that makes the industry even more of a cluster (essentially, however, you are better off not comparing numbers). Each company will test in a way that makes there numbers better. As a result, you can't make an apples to apples comparison when you are at the store unless you simply try them physically. I am not saying Bose does not make products that suck (I am not a fan of thier speakers, but I like their QC headphones), I am saying that marketing rules the day when it comes to audio.

course its not just boses fault, no company does right in the audio industry.
what product is better than what? u gotta take their word for it. which headphones to choose? who the f*ck knows when a consumer is faced with a isle lined to the brim with headphones on the shelves how do you really choose when they all claim to reproduce the same frequency range and all that. when the consumer doesn't really know how to judge quality or know how much something should really cost the market just fails.

Oh, so you say Apple creates a solid product. You must be referring to cosmetics? Other then their sleek design (which Bose does too), they don't do any more than a standard PC will do. This can easily be a Gucci vs Old Navy debate, being that they both serve their purpose as a computer does (purse holds money). Are we now comparing aesthetics? In reality, if we were to compare the sheer number of software for each system, I would imagine there are many more softwares written for Windows PC than for OSX. So what are we really comparing? At the end of the day, apple's marketing gets them the sale but in direct comparison I don't see how apple can be a better value.

Troll, I'm guessing you've never heard of the iPod or iPhone.

Not an Apple fan, but it has nothing on Bose. At least when Apple says product x does y, it is not lying.

Wasn't slow when I used it, but to be fair I was using Logic which hasn't had a PC version in 5 years or more. So I can't compare speeds, but in his studio it was super fast and there was nothing crappy about it at all. A PC with a vastly inferior program like Pro Tools or Reason would be much more crappy for his needs, even if it was faster.

as someone who fucking HATES apple, i still think this is a retarded comparison.

apple makes good products that are too expensive and too dumbed down.

bose makes products that are total crap, and price them like they're friggin' nakamichi or mcintosh.

My iPod 120GB cost the same as an equivalent Creative or Zune (before MS stopped making them). No Apple Tax there and the quality is very good.

I guess some peepz think it's k00l to hate on teh applez, whether it makes sense or not.

How is the FM, wait nevermind. Well how about wm.... hmm. What about recording, oh you said ipod. What about drag and, itunes oh i forgot. Oh wait i got one, mp3, yahhh it can do that. Expandable mem, ohh fixed. Its shinny!!!!

I like Apple...

it makes it so much easier for me to distinguish the sheep that buy one allowing me to take their opinions with a grain of salt.

What's wrong with bose? I love my alarm clock and Midnight says 12:00 instead of 00:00 like this cheap $250 clone I had from Frys.

How was the MacBook an industry game changer? You can make good arguments for the iPod line and the iPhone line, but the MacBook is just a laptop in a nice case. Usually using last years technology, having well publicized QC issues, and commanding a huge price premium.
