So dry your tears and plug your 5 button mouse in instead of buying a mighty mouse. It really is quite simple. Don't like it, don't buy it.

I do choose to not like it and I will follow up with a don't buy it, thank you. However, I don't l ike the hype and that's what I'm getting at. Every mouse needs more buttons. The more buttons the better. More. MOAR!! However, if someone came up to me and went,

"Hey check this out, it's a tire that's ROUND instead of FLAT like they usually are!"

I would "not like it" and "not buy it" but I would also "make fun of" them as well.

Macintosh needs to die in the home market.

Apple has seen its UK share of the education market spring to 11.1 per cent, according to Gartner figures cited by Apple.

This signifies major growth - in 2003, Gartner?s figures showed Apple?s share at about 8.2 per cent.

Note the "education market." Kindergarteners and 6th graders are fvcking stupid, so they need a Mac. Makes perfect sense to me.

wow. your post is saturated with ignorance.

To expose your ignorance further, I'd like to point out to you that the company you're attempting to name here is apple. The Macintosh is a product.

ie Apple Macintosh (a computer)
Apple iPod (plays MP3s)
Machintosh iPod (doesn't exist)

It seems to me the best thing about a mac is the OS. But I ask, how can an OS be so great if it does not run on standard hardware?

I personally think Linux is a greater threat to Apple than MS.

Same sh|t, different name. I really don't give a fvck. A sh|t, by any other name, is just as sh|tty.

This concept is just so hard for people.

I loved the look of their previous mouse, but I hated it the instant I tried to use it. Guess what? I didn't buy it. There are many gamer/uber/xx button mice out for the pc that I can't stand. Again, I don't buy them. The reason some people seem interested (as opposed to getting excited) about new Apple products is because they tend to have a good design, especially with regards to usability.

I really doubt Mac fans are any more/less mindless than PC fans. I've seen plenty of fanbois and that's just on these forums. In all cases, it's "OMG, (Apple/Intel/AMD/nVidia/ATI/Google/etc) farted in a box. I can't wait to buy it."

Read my reply to his. I agree with the concept of "don't like, don't buy" but I hate the hype over moronic products.

OH MY GOD GUYS GUESS WHAT THIS ONE COMPANY FIGURED OUT HOW TO PUT LEATHER STRIPS TOGETHER TO MAKE THESE THINGS THAT FIT OVER YOUR FEAT! HOLY SHNIKIES GUYS!!

I think their mouse is a cool concept. It also seems to fit into Apple's way of doing business, something that looks great, is more expensive, and about as functional as other competing products out there. Macs and iPods fit that description as well. Their products cater to a very specific niche withing the world of technology. There is nothing wrong with that type of business if it can hold its own. I'll stick with my 5-6 year old Logitech 4 button scroll mouse. It does the job 🙂

Wow, a whole $48.02! Man, they're DOMINATING.
Nik, stock price is practically meaningless when evaluating how well a company is doing. Many companies that do far more business and are more profitable than Apple have a lower stock price.

Apple will always have it's niche in the market, as it always has. They are doing well with the Ipod as well as a couple other things. But they don't compete, nor do they want to compete, with the likes of MS, Intel, and Dell. So to compare the two sides of the spectrum is really just irrelevent. Why compare Apple and MS when Apple chooses not to? Why compare a Mac with a Dell when Apple isn't even trying to compete with Dell?

Apple has their little niche that they are happy and successful with. They obvioulsy have no desire to be as big as other large tech giants. There's nothing wrong with that. They'll have obstacles in the future because of this, but they will evolve, and succeed just as they always have.

That's utter BS, of course Apple wants to compete with MS and Dell and the like. OSX was their first strike towards Microsoft, I think moving to x86 will be their move against Dell. They have been surviving in their niche, that is true, but there is no company that doesn't want to take away business from their competition. Apple would be happy to have Microsoft's share of the market if they could.

Of course they are. Apple would like nothing more then to make as much money as Dell, but they never will.

The fact is, if Apple wasn't trying to compete with Intel, and MS - they wouldn't post outragiously constrewed and biased Benchmarks on their hardware. Everyone here knows what I'm talking about. They're also NOTORIOUS for hypocrisy at its finest. With the latest, and most prolific example being:

"Intel suxx, our processors spanks the sh!t out of everything Intel, AMD, or otherwise. Just look at these Benchmarks" - Apple loser, May 2005

"We are switching to Intel because we have decided our processors suck. Intel will help us to carry on in a future where our CPU architecture is outdated." - Same Apple Loser, June 2005

So which is it? Well we all know now, Apple has switched.

Well putting out an OS that PURPOSELY will not work on standard hardware is not exactly telling me they want to compete with MS. Remember, they are a hardware company 🙂

What the hell?
They've always been in direct competition with Microsoft. They will be using intel chips soon, and dell have already asked if they could release boxes with the x86 version of OSX.... which steve said no to.

Check out past keynotes. You'll see the comparisons between the processors apple used and the equivalent intels.

They aren't just happy in their little niche. They're fighting hard to gain that market share. One of the ideas of the iPod is to introduce people to the apple brand name. When people who have had a great time with their iPods are next out loooking for a PC they may spot an apple box someplace and give it whirl.

You realise half the features of windows XP were directly ripped off from apple's OSX? It was so blatant that apple even take obvious digs at microsoft for their plagiarism in the OS field. If they're copying each other then it's plain to see that they are in direct competition.

Here you're talking as though the development of processors was linear and without change. Apple have always aimed to go for the best chips to do the processing they require. They used to run motorola chips, but motorola couldn't come up with the goods. They had to then switch to IBM, who have managed to come out with a very decent G5 chip, but there have been massive problems sqeezing this chip down into a form suitable for a notebook. This is why apple notebooks are stagnating at a max speed of 1.67GHz with a truly poor bus speed of 167MHz. They slap huge amounts of cache on die, but still things are slow. Intel have a much more reliable roadmap and are already making very good notebook chips that blow the powerbooks out of the water. For this reason, apple have gone with the seriously difficult decision to swap over not just the chip manufacturer, but the architecture of the CPUs.

Naturally, this must have been a real dick in the ass as far as decisions go, what with the fact they previously slated intel, the fact that X86 is theoretically inferior to powerPC and that it'll be very hard to limit the OS to their hardware alone (apple don't like users to be farting around with drivers and all that other crap).

They needed the processing power, though, and that's why they made the decision. You'll not see an intel powermac until late '07, but you'll be seeing updated iBooks/Powerbooks in the next few quarters. Don't by an apple notebook any time soon. And with all new hardware/software, you're always best to wait for version 1.2 or so.

Hope this answers your question.

Great now you can write spyware at 4 times the speed! But you still will not learn how to spell!

Deathkoba has been here since 2001, and you guys STILL can't detect the sarcasm? He does it all the time. He is joking around.

Anyways, I own a Logitech Click! mouse. 4 buttons. with scroll wheel. It only cost me $18. I use it with my Powermac G4. The wheel click does expose, and there is an application switcher button which I use that acts as Command+Tab. I love it. No need to ditch it for that stupid Apple mouse. No need to ditch it for any other mouse.

My question is, if they want to compete with MS, why not put an x86 OSX in a Dell?

What touch-sensitive mouse with touch-sensitive multidirectional scrollwheel containing no moving parts do you have in mind?

Granted the technology existed before hand, but the combination of the various technologies inplemented in an unique way is what makes the technology innovative. Just as all the code methods within MacOS X will have been used before (ie the use of strings, variables, etc etc) but the way they were put together made the operating revolutionary and waaaay ahead of its time.

I say you're more of a sheep for following the mac haters crowd; slating whatever they come out with, normally with only a fraction of the required knowledge to make an informed opinion. No doubt you're one who cries about the supposed massive expense of the machines and the fact they can't do anything...
Thanks, now I have the image of you penetrating a fan vent hole in your mac stuck in my head.
