Cyberhippies like the author can blow me. Google and Facebook are much bigger threats to internet freedom than Apple.

Oh shit you're right. My MacBook Pro will no longer allow me to access Twitter!

Seriously, what "internet freedoms" are Apple blocking you from having?

Can you NOT see why this is necessary?

Apple is anti-open source and loves to bash Droid for being open source. That should tell you everything you need to know. But there is no doubt that Apple makes money off millions of sheeple.

http://www.apple.com/opensource/

And Android being open source is pretty much bullshit. The core project is open source but almost all of the Google modules are closed source as well as the manufacturer and vendor mods. You know the core of iOS (Darwin) is open source too?

Name me one Android phone where you can install the OSS build without violating the DMCA. Android is as open as the iPhone, as far as I am concerned. If I want to mod the iPhone I have to jailbreak it. If I want to mod Android I have to root it.

Google sent a Cease & Desist letter to the authors of CynogenMod, who oddly enough make Android A LOT better with their mod. I wonder how many Android owners who make fun of iOS owners because their Android's are "open source" understand their Android really isn't open source. If it is why did Google go after the most talented people who've ever touched the source in the Cynogen team.

Wow, you really are that clueless, aren't you?

Apparently you do not understand simple networking principles nor do you understand that government regulation hinders freedom.

Just look at radio. The regulation sounded good, the government would ensure that radio stations wouldn't exist on the same frequency. Well guess what that turned into, regulation of content.

It's actually pretty easy, I do it all the time.

Not sure why the OP posted such drivel. I also heard on the internet that world is coming to end. Oh noes!!!!

I agree - and on top of that, I think we should apply the same principles to things that are currently over-regulated by the government: air travel and the food supply.

The FAA and the FDA have been taking away my freedoms for too long. I say, let the free market decide which planes take up what airspace and what food gives me Ptomaine poisoning.

As smartphones become more powerful, commonplace, and Droid's reach continues to expand, I see Apple becoming less and less relevant over the next decade. iPad type devices will continue to be popular but I don't see Apple maintaining their market share, and the entire thing feels fadish to me.

The iPod is already on its way out imo... except maybe the nano etc for people who need something smaller than their phone while exercising. No one wants to carry around multiple devices and they wont have any reason to when their phone can do everything. You have generations of people replacing their iPods and dumbphones with smartphones, and a vast number of them will not be getting iPhones. I think this will cause a slow but steady migration away from iTunes.

This leaves them with the people who bought an iPhone (this # has been losing ground to Droid devices), iPad, or an Apple Desktop/Laptop. The iPad craze will cool down, their other hardware will continue to be overpriced, and their grip on the online music industry will slip. Obviously I don't see them disappearing or going away without a fight... I just don't see them maintaining the market share they have - pretty much in any category. Their relevance in the bigger industry picture will be minute.

The companies we should be afraid of are the ones that have control over the largest amount of information, personal or otherwise, and I don't think Apple even falls into the top 5. I have no doubt Jobs would like to get to that point though..

You are right, we have the government telling 13 year olds they can't sell cupcakes.
Good work government.
