Article Apple’s T2 Security Chip Has Created a Nightmare for MacBook Refurbishers

This is just anti-Apple fanboy crap. If you care about the environment, then you removed the iCloud lock from your Mac before you sold it.

So Apple themselves have nothing to do with this issue, including inventing and including this new T2 security chip?

It's only because of "user forgot to configure"?

Did you even read the article? Obviously NOT! Because it states that the refurbisher has to wipe the system, and then the user (corporate) has to UN-ENROLL the system, and the the refurbisher has to wipe it AGAIN, to verify!

It's clear who's side your on, and that includes the side of Apple off-shoring their profits, not paying their fair share of taxes, employing slave labor in China (suicide nets!), and generally just giving a huge middle-finger to the environment, by creating a non-viable tech re-use lifespan for their gear.

Edit: Also, this was my understanding, that this was a user-password issue, and not an iCloud security issue.

Edit: Tell me ONE THING that Apple has done, to promote RE-USE and RE-CYCLING of their products, when no longer desired by their original owner. Rather than making them DISPOSABLE. Can you?

boo hoo, you cant make boku bucks off "refurbishing" 2 year old macbooks. i can see both sides, sure people have the right to fix things on their own, which they can if they have the true owners password right? here is a quote from the article

“It also hurts recyclers,” he said. “Most of the companies donating/selling devices are unwilling to de-register machines even if recyclers ask. But even if they are willing, it's a pain in the ass that almost makes refurbishers scrap them instead of bothering to refurbish.”

wow you have to wipe them 2x! so what, i guess recyclers dont really care about recycling if wiping a drive 2x is such a hassle to make hundreds off a 2 year old laptop. they just want the quick money so they scrap them all. i guess the screens and other chips are tied to the security chip too so you cant just swap them out now? ouch. good thing the apple store is reasonable with repairs last time i had a broken screen they replaced for free on a phone that was reported lost / stolen.

You can read their Environmental Responsibility Report.

They even have an in-house recycling program where they buyback used iPhones.

You could find all of this in a quick Google search if you weren't so busy sniffing your own farts about what a good person you think you are.

I never claimed that I was an environmentalist, did I? I still use plastic bags, plastic straws, and plastic cutlery (sometimes).
kinda seemed like it since you called out everyone that owns a apply product saying they are fake etc.. i know you are a big polluter just with the packaged foods you eat. I just bought another iphone 5s to give away and use the imei to activate another phone heh

Apple support their products for many years meaning that even after you might have upgraded, your device will live on happily with another owner.

Where you don’t want/need to upgrade your device Apple make it nice and easy to get a new battery for your device so that it will get many more years of service.

I don’t know of any other manufacturer who supports their products as long or has local stores you can visit to get things fixed when needed.
