Pakistan bids to appease Taliban with sharia law in northwest

ISLAMABAD ? Pakistan has gambled that an offer to introduce Islamic law to parts of the northwest will bring peace to the troubled Swat valley, but analysts fear any lull will not last long and that appeasement will embolden the Taliban...

Followed up with the appeasement coming out of Europe (France and Britain) and calls for appeasement in the Israel/Palestine conflict and you have to wonder how far we will be willing to change our way of life to suit everyone else's.

Well, at least the world will be able to see what a shitfest Sharia Law will be in Pakistan and hopefully can use that to stop and draw the line somewhere.

Pakistan never, ever learns. This is attempt #28752 to buy off the Talibanesques to stay in their part of the country (the outskirts) and not encroach upon the urban parts. Unfortunately, no war has ever been won by sitting just within one's borders and occasionally peeking outside to see if the bad people have moved any closer.

On the flip side, this may be a ploy by the government to buy some time - stabilize the urban areas and when that's done, relaunch the offensive on the outskirts. I doubt it, though - we've seen them do this all too many times before.

It won't work. Peshawar is almost lost and Taliban elements are infiltrting Islamabad as well. Kashmir is next once Peshawar is under Taliban control. That will certainly bring an Indian response if the Taliban move on Kashmir.

I think Pakistan is kinda desperate. They don't want the Taliban, but they are unable to uproot them. NATO could help, but it's Politically impossible for the Pakistani leadership to allow such a thing. What are they to do?

1) Try to negotiate something with the Taliban
2) Appear upset at NATO incursions into Pakistan, but secretly work with NATO in uprooting the Taliban
3) or both
