But wouldnt they both run at the slower cards clocks? Like SLI does? or does CF not work like that and runs each cards' clocks differently?

The cores are supposedly identical other than the XTX being merely 25MHz higher than XT. I'm actually more interested in the memory speed dynamics. (different memory controllers, iirc)

I thought this was common news? I read a few reviews that stated this.

369, CF cards can run at different speeds just fine. If you have a X1900XT Master card, and a X1900XTX, then both run at different speeds.

I should hope that the X1950 and X1900 can run together in Crossfire since they have pretty much the exact same core.

So are the 7800 and 7900 cores, aside from clock differences. Hech, the 6800 and 7900 are pretty much the same cores.

7800 is G70 and 7900 is G71 though, R580 and R580+ are far more similar, even clocked the same on the core, only difference is the GDDR4 and higher memory clocks. Isn't G70 also 110nm whereas G71 is 90nm?

Yes, there are more differences with the NV cores. X1800 to X1900 was pretty similar too though. It is nice that different cards work together, gives more of an upgrade option for CF users. Will be curious if the X1950 Pro works with the XTX. On paper (and rumor) the Pro looks to be a killer card for $200.

Indeed, this is good news to me as I decided to buy an X1900XT recently (risking the X1900 Crossfire Edition cards disappearing before I decide wether or not to go Crossfire) and now I can rest assured that I would simply be able to pop in an X1950 Crossfire Edition when they drop in price. :)

I just can't wait for the new Crossfire chipsets personaly, supposedly RD600-based boards and next-gen cards will completely remove the need for dongles and master cards.

Can CF keep one ATI card as a physics processor and the other one normal yet or is that something that will be done in the RD600 chipsets?

I think that will be coming with RD600, it's got a big bag of goodies for us I think. I will let the guinea pigs beta test it for me before I even think about it though. :p

just curious, is this on only the new ones, or can it be used with the crossfire cable as well. just any old 1900 cf edition and a 1950 regular card can be used? i got a 1900 cf edition a couple months back for just over 300, and im lookin to get a cf setup in the future.
