Apparently, I am "THAT guy" (food smell in cafeteria)

I should change my eating habits because my coworkers have ADHD. I should also buy a different color car because my coworkers have schizophrenia.

How about my coworkers go fuck themselves and allow me to eat actual people food instead of "lean cuisine"

lean cuisine is a metaphor for any food that doesn't stink up the workplace.

I'm pretty much done worrying about other people's responses to my fish curry after reading this thread and what truly sealed the deal is this morning. Some guy came in and microwaved a bunch of bacon at lunch time for 2 BLTs. Not that I'm complaining about bacon, but the smell of bacon was even stronger than anything I've microwaved, even carried out into the hallways past the cafeteria.

what a jackass. I don't do this for that exact reason.

Without reading the thread, anything is fair game in cafeteria. If you're in a cube farm/shared office, be nice to your neighbors.

Bacon actually smells good though...

Your co-workers should beat you to a bloody pulp...then your employer should fire you for bringing hazardous waste into the workplace.

Amen brother!

I can sympathize OP, I'm also that guy :hmm:

Curry is fine in the microwave, fish not as much. Popcorn is the worst, because no one knows how long to set the timer for on the work microwaves (they all have a different wattage)

Also, It's fun tricking the new interns, the bag of 'banana taffy' is really durian candy.

Heating food is nowhere similar to farting in the cafeteria.

Says you. I'd rather smell a fart for a few minutes than fish all day. Farting is a natural process that may be offensive to some but otherwise not harmful. Your fish falls in the same category.

It is clear you are one of those people that always have an excuse or an easy way to dismiss the opinions of others. I'm going to guess that you don't take constructive criticism well, that nothing is ever your fault and that people at work generally tolerate you but don't like you much.

That's actually a great joke because lean cuisine smells and tastes like fecal matter :awe:

Popcorn smells great too and people are saying not to microwave that either. This is what's wrong with America. People don't even recognize good food when they smell it.

You may think its funny to be obtuse like this, but the point is that it is acceptable to heat food in the microwave at work. Stuff like curry is arguably ok as evidenced by the variety of responses in this thread and support for eating curry at work. But when you argue that farting is similar to heating curry is where you lose your credibility.
If you had farts that would knock a buzzard off a shit wagon and insisted on dropping them in the cafeteria would you expect people to be OK with it?
This example is retarded. There is nobody here that would compare farting with food like this or argue that the cafeteria is an acceptable place to fart.

You've asked and most people have responded that it is acceptable to heat most food in the microwave. They have said, time and again, that heating fish is a big office no-no. A Google search will show you many, many links to websites that basically say it is not OK to microwave fish at work because it is offensive.

My point is this: there are a lot of things that you can do (few people actually go to the restroom just to fart) but you should avoid the ones that offend people. Microwaving fish at works, by most accounts, is very offensive.

I think so. Any smell which is offensive to employees whether it comes from food, shoes, clothing is disruptive and disturbs the work env.

that i agree with. there was a temp developer who was in a cube next to me and her fucking perfume was so heavy i could actually taste it. After 3 days i couldn't take it and told my boss either she moves or i move so they moved her that afternoon. now i get the stink eye from her when we pass in the hallway.

fuck you bitch your perfume STINKS!!! I do NOT and will not be have my nose assaulted all damn day not to mention my health because i had a raging headache everyday i had to endure the stench.

You must be real fun at parties.

some of you forget how 'awesome' hvac at larger buildings is. that fish smell in the cafeteria is getting sucked into a whole floor of offices is the jackass architect thought it was a good place for a return air duct.

my last job had that problem, return air in the small breakroom/kitchenette, so when when people thought having a can or 2 of tuna for lunch and didnt rinse it out, everyone had to smell it, same with microwaving fish(yuck), burning popcorn ETC.
