We use an older website for work in which IE 9.0 is the newest it will support, and also does not work with aftermarket browsers. After 15 minutes without actvity, it log you out and all the stuff you were looking up is gone. So I am looking for any way possible to keep the session active for an 8 hour day.

"Aftermarket" browsers.

What is this, I don't even.

As for your issue, I'm sure there are extensions/addons that add a function to reload a page every X minutes. That will solve your issues. Firefox has something like that, called "ReloadEvery". Not sure about IE.

Can you change the source of the site and add some javascript to reload the page on an interval? Or do you have access to the webserver and can increase the timeout time?

Just a term I meant for non microsoft browser. I am not sure what you would technically call them.

This particular website will not work with anything other than IE, and they are not planning on upgrading it. I can never understand why.

Windows = Factory is IEX, Aftermarket is Safari, Firefox, Chrome, Opera, etc.

Apple = Factory is Safari, Aftermarket would be Firefox, Chrome, Opera, etc.

I do not. They changed this timeout as a result of the Sarbanes–Oxley Act

I see quite a few of companies do this on areas of the websites not related to security.

Have you tried to view the website in Firefox if you switch the rendering engine over to IE (using the IE Tab 2 extension)? If so, you could use the "ReloadEvery" extension to keep the page alive.
