App that will alert me if my normal commute drive has a delay?

Turn off Google now, and turn it back on (removes your Google now data)! It will ask you a bunch of stuff again, like your workplace, home and some weather and stocks stuff, but this time it will show them at the right time!!
Give this a shot, it worked for me, hoping the same for you.

Pretty much, yeah. It'll say Delay and give details, including how many extra minutes it's estimated to take.

Frankly, even a text or email alert isn't going to help you, if you're really that horrible about clearing your notifications, you'll never see the text or the email notification anyway. On the other hand, you could ALSO set up the GoogleNow Widget, and plop it on one of your homescreens. That should also show you traffic alerts, though sometimes the content the widget shows is a little random. Traffic alert should show up relatively prominently though.

There's other similar apps, but you definitely want to avoid the text/email route. These all cost money though, GoogleNow is free.

It sounds like you aren't actually interacting with Google Now so it learns what to send your way. You can manually customize what sends notifications, or you could deal with them as they come up and you can decide whether you want to continue getting these updates or not.

I do not understand the traffic alert problem, I see my time to home everywhere I go be it work, a random store, friend's house, etc. It's always there for me.

Well to be honest there should be more options for Google Now. Like if you don't like the commute times and when its displayed, you should have an option to change that. I tend to get commute times starting 4pm even though I typically don't get off til after 6 and usually after 7pm.

I should also be able to choose which TV shows I care about. It tells me Game of Thrones is on Sundays at 9pm. Great, but what about 24? Oh because the only way to trigger that is by searching it? What if I search about a show I don't follow?

This whole automated stuff is good, but at the same time it deserves to have some knobs and dials for the power user.

As for the traffic alert problem, I think it only becomes an issue if someone accidentally clears the notification.

Regarding TV shows, just search for the show using a computer, and you can tell it to remind you of new episodes. So, search for GoT, and turn off the reminders for new episodes. Then, search for 24, and tell it to remind you of new episodes. You can also follow the show to get more information about the show as well, think of it like news.

Google Now is great, but you have to teach it what you want to know about you. It's not magically going to know that you like 24 just because you haven't searched for it. I do agree, more granular controls would be great to have. Perhaps in a future release 😉

I'm not sure what the OP's problem is. If you dismiss your notifications, then what's to say you don't even read your texts/emails? It places your traffic time on your tray when you need to goto work and/or home. If you want to make it simple, use DashClock to put the Google Now notifications on your lock screen.

Wouldn't it be up to other email developers to make their app work with Google Now? I'm not sure though, maybe Google hasn't opened it up for other apps to partake in Google Now.

its only a minor gripe. but all my real email goes to another acnt which i had years before gmail ever existed, so Google now never pulls appointments, plane flights and all that stuff it can do :/

You could automatically forward stuff from your primary email account to a "dummy" Gmail account that would then be used for Google Now. But only if you're cool with Google reading all your shit.

I use IFTTT.com (If This Then That)to set up a rule to text me when anything I'm interested in happens, by using Pushover, which pushes messages to your phone, although I have an iPhone, I believe this would also work for Android.

I telecommute, so I'm not sure how well the traffic works, but Pushover sends me messages regularly regarding the World Cup, today's weather, etc.
