My wife wants a app that she can use to edit her recorded shows. She mainly wants to edit out commercials. Is there a free app that is easy to use that will get the job done? Thanks for any help. 🙂

Windows XP comes with Windows Movie Maker. It's easy to use, but you can only save as WMV.

Also, take a look at Virtual Dub. It's more complex, but also much more powerful.

I guess I'm going to have to be the one that says that she probably won't enjoy the process and will stop doing it after the first effort... unless it's really important to her.

Spend $10 and give MPEG2VCR a try. But for around $50 you can get VideoRedo, which works great. Has a commercial detection, and has no problem with HD MPEG2. VirtualDub works well, and on the Mac MPEGStreamclip. Both are free.
