Aphex's Apps of the Week - Week of 8/11/08

I was so impressed with the apps of this single company (FreeMacSoft), I thought I would post them all in a single thread. And yes, they are ALL free.

[__FreeMacSoft__]

Licenses: Free

Info:[/list]

AppCleaner - AppCleaner is a small application which allows you to thoroughly uninstall unwanted apps. Installing an application distributes many files throughout your System using space of your Hard Drive unnecessarily. AppCleaner finds all these small files and safely deletes them. Simply drop an application onto the AppCleaner window. It will find for the related files and you can delete them by clicking the delete button.

LiteIcon - LiteIcon is a simple app which allows you to change your system icons easily. Simply drag an icon onto the one you want to change, click the Apply Changes button and restart the Finder to see the modifications. That's it. To restore an icon, right-click it and pick Restore. To restore all icons to their originals, go to File -> Restore all icons...

SecureFiles - SecureFiles is a simple app which allows you to create encrypted Disk Images to store your sensitive documents. Just enter the disk image's name, its maximum size and type the password when requested. A new volume will appear on your desktop, in which you can drag and drop the files you want to protect. SecureFiles uses the 128 bits AES encryption algorithm to keep your files safe.

My Take: I came across FreeMacSoft a few months ago when I was looking for an AppZapper clone. Surprisingly, AppCleaner works just as well and is completely free. I tried some other AppZapper clones in the past, none of them worked as well as the real thing, except AppCleaner.

Went back to the site today and was surprised to find they had a few other apps I hadn't seen before. SecureFiles looks very cool, going to try it out today as I have some files I've been thinking about encrypting, but wasn't sure how to best accomplish it. Looks like this should work great.

Also, LiteIcon looks pretty darn nice as well. Most Icon changing app's i've seen are $10-$20, so a free one is always a welcome addition. Going to try this one out as well today and see how well it works with customizing my desktop/dock/finder (which i'm sure you all know, i Love to do).

I'd suggest using TrueCrypt for encryption. I dont know much about it but it was recommended to me and is used on Windows and Linux as well. Seems to work fine for me. If SecureFiles has better encryption or UI lemme know.
