are these assumptions correct?

Not exactly. If your HDTV has a deinterlacer (and they all do) then you'll get a progressive picture even with an interlaced DVD player. However, the deinterlacers in HDTVs usually don't support 3:2 pulldown -- thus a good progressive scan DVD player would usually yield superior playback. And even if the HDTV's deinterlacer does support 3:2 pulldown it'll still require an extra A->D, D->A cycle to do so -- and thus the progressive scan DVD player will still be a bit better.

That's assuming a good prog-scan DVD player, of course. I don't think anyone yet knows whether the AD-2600's progressive scan support is "good".

I purchased on the 17th for $49.99 as well. I just wrote to Amazon to either credit my card with $10 or return and repurcase it and let me download a new invoice so I can get the rebate.

Crossing my fingers!

compatibility list here

I currently have the AD-2500, which from what I understand has the same internals but this is in a smaller case... So far it has been pretty good... The remote is a bit goofy, You can turn the unit off with the remote, but not on. I have heard a lot of DOA units on apex *, so good thing this is from amazon, they are good about returns from what I understand...

I'm tempted to get this to use up my $20 gc, this would end up being a 19 dollar dvd player :D

havent tried torrid but have heard from numerous sources that this thing will read everything you throw at it...

Im gonna have to make a DVD-R list with all my MP3's on it, enough music to last a week :)

By the way, anyone who has this... you can only see like 10 letters of the file name which sucks for MP3s... anyone know how to make the font smaller or the window bigger?

I'm in , too. With the $10 rebate, $20 coupon code from a previous order, and a few spare amazon nickels the player came to about $19.55 shipped after rebate. Shoot, I can't even find a cheap vcr for that price, much less a p-scan dvd player.

I ordered on 11/14 for $59.99 and received $10 credit on 11/20 after the price went down and then came the $10 rebate for orders dated 11/22 - 12/31. Initially they refused to credit me for $10 rebate but after I wrote them that other buyers are getting credit then this is what Amazon wrote back to me:

Thank you for writing back to us at Amazon.com.

I have reviewed our previous correspondence with you, and I offer my
sincere apologies for any misunderstanding thus far.

In order to have taken advantage of this rebate, the order must have
been placed on or after November 22, 2003. We are unable to apply
discounts retroactively to items ordered after the date of any
special offer.

However, we appreciate your business, and would like to give you a
$10.00 promotional certificate for use toward your next Amazon.com
order. When you redeem this certificate, please be sure to use the
sopping cart rather than ordering via 1-Click.

Thanks for the heads-up, axmonkey!

For those of you who have received this DVD player from Amazon, is it shipped double-boxed?

If not, how well is it sealed from the factory?...I have a UPS driver that has *accidentally* torn boxes open before (...same driver that has left stereo speakers out on my back lawn in the rain because he was too lazy to put them on the covered patio...), so if it's not well sealed, I'll kick in the $4.50 to have it gift wrapped to keep it from *accidentally* getting torn open.

It's shipped in its original packaging but delivered in good condition yesterday and I will be hooking it up tonight.
