Thanks.. just don't lose it. Perhaps I can compensate you for taking it into Kinko's or something. Thanks for steppin up!! 🙂

Think about it... if there is any way you can email me a copy .... let me know.

Also... can you tell what store it was bought from? Do you remember the employee that agreed to sell it for that price? Was it a manager, etc..

Thanks for your help.

😀

I purchased it for $99.99 last sunday evening, and thought it was a decent enough deal. But I thought I could get it even cheaper (rebate)..so what I did was ordered it onlne today, and just stopped by the store. They didn't want to price adjust it because they got the 500's in stock, so they were selling the 660's for $149.99 again (they had a pile in the middle of the store with a sign on top of it). Anyway, after telling them I got it this week, and the sale doesn't end till tonight, and showing them my receipt (and a bit of arguing), they refunded the $50+ tax....so, $99.99 - $50 for me! Now THERE'S a HOT DEAL! I don't have a scanner, so sorry, I don't think there's anything I can do...

CC in San Antonio is not substituting any more b/c they have them in their wherehouse. I bought one at $99 two days ago and tried to get another today but had to pay $149...but bought it on the CC website with local pickup so I can use the rebate.

I purchased the 600a (last one they had) a few days ago but I'm debating wether or not to return the 600 and get the 660. Is the 660 THAT much better than the 600? the one thing I did read was that the 660 can play mpegs but sux for mp3s. Has anyone had any experiences with both the 600 and 660? Thanx.

Zero

show them your receipt, TODAY. say it's during the same sale week, etc. that's what i said at pickup, and got it...gotta return the one i initially picked up sometime later this week though.

Zero: whaddya mean it (the 660) can play mpegs? You mean you can just dump an mpeg onto say a CD-R/W, (a non-vcd compatible mpeg stream) and it'll play? That'd be pretty cool if it could.

Actually, I heard the 600a has problems with branching dvd's or something (id4, xmen, etc)...not sure if it was fixed in later models with modified firmware though.

The latest version of the AD-600A supports Seamless Branching, so X-Men works fine (I just watched it on my new one last night).

You can tell that you have the new one if the box does not say "Surround Sound" on it, the knobs say "Mic Level" and "Echo Level," and if the remote does not have the "Surround," "Echo " and "Echo-" buttons.

You were referring to the 600A when you said "newer version" right? What about the 660A? This is my third unit (remember I got one last sunday or monday, exchanged it because the unit was too noisy, and then bought another so that I could get the $50 MIR)...anyway, this third one had inputs all the way at the left side (the other two had em in the middle), and this one had a sticker on the unit saying MP3 support (the other two didn't), and a sticker on the unit saying if the sticker was ripped the warranty would be voided...also, the drive doesn't make that clicking noise like those other two...

wasssup:
Yep. Thats correct. I burned a few mpegs onto a cdr using Nero 5.0 and it worked! I did not create these mpegs but I'm sure you must create them a certain way because I tested 3 different mpegs at first. One of them worked perfectly(full screen video) and I was impressed. The second one I bured on a cdr was not even recognized by the apex660 and the 3rd mpeg played in a windowed mode and had the standard apex display in the background and it was flashing(very annoying). so I assume that the mpegs need to be created a cerain way because I burned them all together the same way. I'll do some more expirementing and post back.

I am not sure if you were referring to my post, wassup, but yes, I was referring to the AD-600A, not the AD-660.

I had a few AD-660's, but I did not like the specific method one has to go through to burn mp3's that the unit will recognize (ISO9660/Mode1/8.6 Character File Names). Also, the ones I owned did not like CDRW's at all. My AD-600A will play basically any mp3 I stick in it.

The third (yep, I went through 3 of 'em) AD-660 I owned did have that feature sticker along the side (hurry....take it off! The first one I had also had the sticker, so I pulled it off immediately. The third one I left the sticker on for a few days...after I took it off, it left a huge glue mark all along the top and side. Nothing I could do would get rid of it. It was ugly). It also had the warranty label. I was not aware of any differences in the plugs on the back though.

You can tell if you have the "newest" AD-660 by hitting the following buttons on your remote:
1. Setup
2. Step
3. Track Backward
4. Track Forward

It should take you to a version page that I believe will say 660-8MM. This page does nothing else, as it is not a "loophole page."

Oh yes, the other thing that annoyed me about the AD-660 is the Subtitles always came on automatically. I had to turn them off everytime I put a new disc in. Blech.

Yes, it looks like the deal was extended. However, the circular for Circuit City has the DVD player listed @ $149 - damn. I guess we could still persist with a price match of their Internet site - with varying degrees of success.

On another note, Circuit City has the Apex 7## (3-disc) DVD changer listed @ $199 this week. I'm not sure of the performance or capabilities of this player, though. However, if CC won't give you the 660 for $99, this this might be a viable option. If so, then pick it up at Wards where the price is only $169 this week.

that's still too much...i mean, i would pay $20 more than a 660 for a 703, but they're practically the same thing, except the 703 has a 3 disc carousel...now, i'm not THAT lazy, and since I did get the hot deal ($99 - $50 MIR) i'll be happy with what i got 😉

Can those that have been successful at getting the 660 for $99 please post the store location and salesman information (if it is on the receipt).

This would be very helpful to others (namely myself..lol)

With either a copy of the receipts or the store location, etc., it will be MUCH easier to convince the online CC to sell for the BM store price of $99.

Thanks.

Well...I *do* have a scanner, but this piece of sh*t doesn't like Win2k, which is why I said I don't have a scanner earlier. And since I don't bother setting up a dual boot system anymore, there's nothing I can do 🙁

Wow...the 703 has a decoder eh? Nice...I saw some crap in the nationwide paper today for a dvd player that has dolby digital decoding for $99...never mentioned what brand....i'm assuming it's crap, obviously.

I just thought I'd bump this, since Circuit City is *still* selling the AD-600A for $99. And you no longer have to "pretend" to want the AD-500A, as they now have the AD-600A on display tagged @ $99.

In my opinion, this is *the* best low cost DVD Player. And it's a better value than the AD-660.

Atrac: could you give me some more info on the Genica player? My friend told me he had one but it turned out to be an Apex player. I wanna get one to replace or compliment my Pioneer DV-525. I've read your posts at nerd-out and want some info on video quality and such. Thanks.

Regarding the Genica Player from compgeeks, it's a fairly decent player. I personally think that the Apex has a better picture, but the casual viewer will most likely be quite satisfied with the Genica Kalua.

Besides, the Kalua can be made Region and Macrovision Free!

I am trying to decide between the Apex 600a and the Genica (at CompGeeks). MP3 playback is important to me, and I read a message earlier here that said the Genica could not shuffle/randomize mp3 playback. Can someone confirm this? How is the Genica in traversing subdirectories containing MP3 files on the CDR?

Thanks.

Just picked up TWO of the Apex AD 600 for gifts.

I had bought TWO other DVDs, one at Best Buy the day after Thanksgiving for 99-20 rebate (KLH? I think), and one for 98 at WalMart for 99 (Orion I think).

Guy at BestBuy said that if I was to use the KLH, that since it had a slow processor, that I might not be able to play DVDs like "The Matrix".. or DVDs that require a lot of processing. I didnt know what to think of this, but I do know that my Apex 600a (Loophole model) seems to be able to play dvds fine... and since I these gifts arent going to be playing NON Region DVDs, and they are not going to be copying to VHS... there shouldnt be a problem...unless going through a VCR might be problem...

Why does someone say that the 600 is better than the 660?

Thanks..

I think the only reason is you can see long file names for mp3's on the 600, and not the 660...that's a reason that i really don't care about, i'm not playing mp3's in my apex so i can watch the filenames..."browsing" directories isn't too hard either...
