Best Buy has the new Apex AD-3201 DVD/CD-R/CD-RW/MP3/VCD/SVCD/HDCD Player for $124.99.

It's basically an Apex AD-660, but it supports HDCD.
Apex says all of these have flash ROM, so if you want hacks, it'll just be a matter of time.

I don't even know if you can get HDCD's and whether there's much benefit at all, but hey, support for an additional format couldn't hurt. 🙂

This one also adds component video outputs and TOSLINK fiber optic digital output, both things the AD-660 (and AD-500W) don't have.

<< nice,
is the mp3 interface improved from the older versions by any chance?
>>

No, in fact I heard it was worse. Something about going from the original GUI to a text display...
I haven't played with it first hand, so I don't know for certain that it's worse.

does apex have a website, or is ther any place with all the features of all of their products anywhere

I think I'm going to wait for the AD-7701 (August expect release date).

All the features you mentioned, plus MP3, DVD-Audio AND SACD!

Can't be that, it plays EVERYTHING!

I was in the market for getting the AD-660, as I need a DVD player, with functionality of a VCD/SVCD player as well...is this a good choice compared to the 660? or should i get the AD-660.. CC retails the AD-660 for $149.99 (can't find any coupons for them either...and no one has it to PM it to..🙁 ) ...

Just picked this thing up....the TOSLINK otical connection is incredible, i was using a 50 ft cable from my aureal vortex2 (with optical out), to input into my reciever.....but i no longer have to!!!!!!!!! Also, i'm not getting the subtitles, so it may have been fixed...who knows 🙂 Anyhow...this thing is great. Only wish there was a coupon or somewhere i could price match for cheaper...oh well. Thanks for the heads up GnatGoSplat.

I picked one up from BB B&M as well, but it's going back because the drive motor sounds like a jet engine taking off 🙁. I realize it's a hit&miss affair with Apex regarding getting a good/working unit, but those of you still wanting to take a chance may want to make sure you can easily return it if needed.

Poochy,
True that! Don't drive 2 hours to get one of these units cuz you might have to drive 2 more hours to exchange it!

HDCD website

that's the HDCD website. It will have a list of all albums mastered or whatever in HDCD format. When I got my Toshiba 3109 DVD player I noticed it played HDCD discs so I looked through my collection and I had a few. As to how the sound well it's not too noticably different. Maybe a little fuller or a little warmer or something. This is my first post btw, hope everything works alright hehe.

Yes the 3201 does do SVCD, and it's pretty cool. I've been playing with mine, and i've noticed a few problems, that i don't know are normal or they have something else to do with the player itself.

1. Pixelation, when playing CDR (VCD/SVCD)..might this have to do with the media? Or the actual file used? It's clean a mpg/mpg2.

2. I'm using the optical cable for audio, originally i was able to watch DVD's no problem in 5.1, but now it's not letting me do 5.1, and defaulting to pro-logic. Any ideas?

Other than that, it works perfectly, it's taken every media i've put into it, DVD's play flawlessly (cept the audio..).

Any ideas,
