Appears to be slimmer, other than that the feature set seems similar.

Not quite.

Here's the 'technical info' from the descriptions at Amazon with all the features that are common to both, edited out. Thus, what is listed below are the ones that are different between the two. The AD-2600 seems slimmer in more ways than mere weight.

Also, the 2600 is on 'pre-order'.. not yet ready to be delivered.

Damn, I paid $80 two months ago. it is a good dvd player, and plays virtually everything I throw to it.

Grabbed one. Seems like a good player. One of the comments where a person had a problem with the no video, but had sound, seemed to have fixed her problem yesterday by pressing a button on the remote. The quality of this player should be like the other apex players out there, YMMV. My apex-500 has been working great for more than a year already.

I've got an Apex 1100W that I bought from Walmart last November and hacked with region free. While the construction of the unit seems rather cheap (it doesn't feel that sturdy) and the layout of the remote and controls aren't the best, it's played everything I've thrown at it (tons and tons of SVCDs and VCDs along with some regular and other region DVDs) and has worked great since then.
