Ok, I know it used to go for $69.99 at CC and other places but it seems like those places no longer have this player. J and R has it for 89.99 with free shipping. I just received one and it's confirmed hackable. I think this player maybe phased due to the "hackability".

I picked this up at fry's for 69.99. I just printed out Circuit City's website and they priced matched it. YMMV. Good luck. Awesome player. Just watched Lord of the Rings last nite. Bout to watch Black Hawk Down. Good stuff.

So is the 500W by Apex a better option if I want to disable copy protection or have a region free player?
 
Are there any players that can play "DIVX" movies?

Or is this simply another name for SVCD?

SVCDs are encoded in MPEG2 format. DivX are in MPEG4. I don't know of any standalone player that can play DivX. You have to go back to your PC to see DivX movie.
 
I remember someone talked about restrictions when you apply the hack to this player, but don't remember the link. Anyone can help?

i only see the apex ad1200 on the circuit city website for $69.99. anyone know if this one is hackable like the 1500? the reviews on the circuit city site are mostly favorable.

I just picked up my AD1200 over the weekend from CC ($75 after tax). Very light and decent. Menus are easy and plays very well. I haven't tried MP3 (CDRW) or VCD yet. You can't beat the value.

You'll be hard pressed to find a Circuit City that has 1500's in stock. I'm still not clear on the difference.

I checked out that hack site for the 1200 and it doesn't look clear to me if the Macrovision turn off works or not. Has anyone done that with a 1200? (I'll have to try it tonight.😉 ) Anyone know of other hacks?
 
I think all in all, the ad 1500 is the easiest to upgrade. I have been following the hacks among the apex players since 500 series. The 1500 can be hacked via CDR upgrades so you don't even have to open the box. I did it in less than a minute. While for the 500/600 series, you have to know which box you got 'cause there is a lot of design changes which hacks sometimes don't work. I think the 1500 is getting harder because it's so easy to hack. If you have been waiting for this, don't wait too long.

Also, the 1500 hack also takes out RCE protection and not just Macro. I though I also read from somewhere that it also plays Divx. Overall, it's a very good player for the $$$.

A lot of the KMart stores still have these AD-1500 in stock but at a higher price - $99.99 but you can still try to get them to pricematch if you bring in an ad or a receipt which is what my friend did and got a hackable unit for $69.99.

A tip...make sure you put it in a well ventilated place because it can get hot!! Though, I've never heard of overheating units...mine got so hot one day that I could smell the scent of toasty wires all over the living room. Scared the crap out of me!! My Sony could run the whole day without any heat issues. I guess you get what you pay for but other than the heat issue it's not a bad player. I use it only to play VCD and SVCDs. 🙂

 
If someone has an online ad for $69.99 or below, please share it with the rest of us for PM. Trying to squeeze as much as I before AMEX expires it.
 
Now all CC replace their AD-1500 with the 1200. i try to pm the apex 1500 CC's price with k-mart, they only pricematch against wal*mart and target only.

I tried turning of MV on my 1200 with no luck. Wish I'd gotten a 1500. I've not been able to find them around here. Anyone know of any in stock around Mesa, AZ?
