Apex 43" HDTV comments?

Our current sony 53" peice of junk is messed up so going to get a replacement and this seems cheap @ only $900 shipped and taxed


Don't know much about TV... anything I should take note of and how good/bad this thing is?
2 Year Sears warranty would be $160 more, should I buy this?
 
Well...as bad as Sony is, imo, it would be better than an Apex!!

Why not look at Hitachi or Samsung?


heh...just clicked your link and the two I suggest are right below the Apex! And the Samsung is 16:9, not that lame 4:3 like the Apex.
 
I'll admit I've never seen an Apex HDTV, but Apex is definitely not known for either picture quality or build quality. And no, I'm not biased. I own an Apex DVD player.
 
I have an APEX 24inch flat screen. It was $140. Good deal but I heard a lot of crap from APEX. The tv is fine except video games aren't as sharp
 
Amazon had it for $500 a couple months back, buy it with a platinum visa and you will get a 2 year warranty for free.

STOP RIGHT THERE!

A Digital Light Projector, such as the Infocus X1 that can be haded for even less than $900, might even produce a better picture than those RPTV you mentioned.

The X1 is able to put out a 100" picture on a dedicated screen! that thing is truly an amazing value for money...

You neglect to mention that some people may experience rainbows, and that front projectors are only good in applications where there is full ambient light control.
 
And you have room/suitable place for the projector

plus the fact that with a projection screen you automatically need a home theatre system due to no speakers built in (not everyone owns a system yet).

Still many that are investing big bucks in the 40-70" TV's would be better suited with a projection setup. Some of them are pretty decent in lighted situations and excellent in low light/dark ones.
 
This tv is on sale at Sears for under $700 now. Is it worth it? I have a 32" standard Panasonic right now, and would like to upgrade to HD, but don't have the $1,100+ that most units cost. But for $700...Some of that xmas/bday money I just got....
 
Dammit! It would be $700.00 now while I am trying to take care of Christmas and buy a house 🙁 *sigh* No way I can do it.
 
As much as I liked the underdog I would stay away from an apex hdtv.. Now I own an apex dvd player and a daewoo 27" tv- I'm not anti korean.. In fact, I'm smart enough to know that Samsung, as good as their marketing department is, builds most of their stuff in the same factories that make daewoos and apex's... But when you're making a major investment on a big screen tv you should stick to brands that have a reputation.. Apex is just too new in my opinion to warrant a $700+ investment.. You're taking the leap to HDTV to improve the quality of your picture - why get an inferior 4:3 tv when you can put the money away for a nice 16:9 set by a name brand? Or get a refurb....
 
I haven't really heard anything great about Apex and it just seems a little sketchy. Personally I am looking at getting this one...Panasonic There are a few sites that have it cheaper and right now I am working on seeing if I can get a better deal through Amex. Hopefully I will be able to get this for about 1200
 
Apex HDTVs are an iffy proposition at best. If you have a problem you have to fight them tooth and nail to get service. Most of the time they just leave the phone off the hook.

If you must go cheap, check out UECWeb, which is a division of Hitachi. They sell refurbs here in the US, and you get a 30 day warranty (you'll probably see a problem right off if it has one) from Hitachi authorized servicers, and you can go for an extended warranty from someplace like Visa for $150.

Hitachi makes some of the best HDTV RPTVs, so these are a bargain. Me? I'll probably pick up something new.
