Apcompat with 2k

I wanted to install Red Alert on my 2k machine and when I first tried it I got the message telling me that it only works under 95.. blah blah. So I figured apcompat. So I run apcompat, select the setup.exe, then windows95 then hit enter. My comp clicks away for a few secs then Apcompat stops responding.. I'm still pretty much a 2k newbie, am I doing something wrong?
 
Even with APCOMPAT I have not been able to get Red Alert to install on win2k. Apcompat doesn't work with everything. NT/2000 does not let programs directly access hardware (unlike win95/98). This is why it is so stable. It also prevent some programs from working no matter what.
