I wonder why we only get five hours of game time? Seems like they'd want us slamming the servers to test them out.

So, I got a beta invite and will be trying it out shortly. Looks promising, but again, so do so many other games.

So did I.

I've been generally interested in this game for a while. But, after playing if for an hour.... well, meh. The number one biggest thing that bothered me is the vehicle control. Holy crap. You press left to turn left, but there seems like there's a 1 second lag in between when you push the button and when the vehicle actually turns.

Hate to say it, but the vehicles in Just Cause 2 handle better than the ones in APB. If they ever fix vehicle handling in APB, I may give it a try, otherwise I'm washing my hands of this mess.

My friend said it was pretty good, but I am downloading it right now to see.

Holy shit Batman! 7.6gb and the most I am getting download wise is like 350kb/s... Let me torrent the client or something.

The whole thing is very odd.

There seems like a lot of promise here but the way this "beta" or "demo" or whatever the hell it is, is being handled...well, I don't think that this is the best way to go about it.

For those that don't know, the game is split into two "zones." You've got your "Social" zone, where you can use APB's (admittedly pretty cool and in depth) customization tools. Think City of Heroes or Champions Online + The Bloods and The Crips and you've got your "Action" zones where you go on missions, earn cash, blow bad guys away, etc etc etc.

The demo gives you five hours in the "action" zones and unlimited time in the social zones. This is similar to how the pricing model will be when the game goes live (you can buy X hours at a time or pay a flat fee for unlimited time). But still...five hours for an almost 8GB download...I dunno.

I've been downloading it for almost 5 hours already... Lucky for me I've got other games to hold me over or this would be kind of infuriating.

I don't know if I like this whole pay to play idea. The action zones are instanced anyways, aren't they? Meaning that you only play with X amount of people per zone. So it's not really a MMO; more like a multiplayer game with a chat lounge that charges you to play games. Sounds pretty lame.

You can fix the download speed problem by changing your DNS in TCPIP settings to 4.2.2.1 and 4.2.2.2

Yup, I was downloading at 7MB/s

The game was fun for the 5 hours we could play. Anyone know how the price break downs work exactly?

How do you play with people that are your friends? I am a little confused how questing works.

Driving was not bad at all, I ran over a bunch of criminals :D.

Really? So you didn't experience that insane input lag in driving?

I had no lag. I was impressed with how responsive the game was. The only latency issues I had were firefights with people bunny hopping and whatnot. The cars are just heavy and they handle more like real vehicles than they do in other games.

I noticed the cop car handles really well, even though it looks like a fiat, haha.

believe action district population is a max of 100

should be a sufficient player amount as long as it doesn't dip too low

Do not waste your time playing this, it's mediocre if that.

Shooting is simplistic and cumbersome
Driving is kinda fun if it wasn't of horrid input lag
Cities feel dead, some peds and some cars, but it's basically a large maze.

MAYBE I would play it if it was free, but the fact that they are asking an $50 initial cost plus additional sub or top-ops is utterly ludicrous.

M'eh, I dunno, I had fun playing with some folks last night. Pretty cool to load up a van of friends and go on a crime spree through the city.

That being said, this 5h business is ludicrous.

lovin it so far. the limited graphics options kinda sucks... it's built on unreal3 engine... but you can't edit any of the ini's because the server overwrites them to defaults.

Realtime Worlds is introducing an "evolutionary" pricing plan for APB, giving players some room to move in terms of subscription fees. The game itself retails for $49.99, and comes with 50 hours of game play, along with unlimited time in the game's social districts. Once your 50 hours runs out, you have two options: either purchase an additional 20 hours for $6.99, or go for the 30-day unlimited package for $9.99, with discounts for three and six month subscriptions.

This game is mad boring... Played through the tutorial and was no impressed at all. I might try and get my 5 hours worth (after an 8 hour download...).

It's infinitely better when you play with friends. I'm no apologist but I had fun with my five hours.
