Apartments in Wixom/Novi, MI

I moved to Wixom last week for a job, which is super cool cause I was unemployed way too long but got this new job that seems great. Anyway I'm in a motel while I find an apartment, but I keep so turned off on like every apartment due to bad reviews.

Most are around 5/10, and they're only that because EVERY apartment is full of reviews obviously written by management. The two nice ones I've heard in Wixom (Portsmouth and Hillside) don't have any openings for another month or so (too long at $80/night at a motel).

Maybe I'm taking these reviews too seriously. The last apartment complex I lived in only got about 5.5/10, with reviews complaining about terrible staff, crappy apartments, and noise, but man that was a really nice apartment with exceptional staff and like zero noise.

So does anyone used to live in an apartment in this area that was favorable? Or even like if there's specific areas that are good or bad. I work in Wixom so I've been looking at Wixom and Novi mostly, but Farmington Hills and such are close enough (20 minutes max). Obviously I'm not familiar with this area. Just don't want to get stuck in a 1 year lease were it's too noisy to sleep at night and my car gets broken into or vandalized.

OP, can you ask your new co workers about the apartments? Since most of them would live around the area, they should know better.

I am in a decent apartment right now and I found out from a co worker, he used to live here.

You can expand your search to Milford and Walled Lake too, honestly all of the cities in that area are fairly nice. FWIW you may be able to rent a small home in the area for almost the same price.

Sorry, I can't say I'm too familiar with individual housing complexes out that way, but I can echo the comment that the area is pretty nice area to live, although traffic can be a little trying sometimes. I would also look at South Lyon, Northville, and Plymouth, but I bet you can find something right in Novi.

btw-Novi is named Novi because it was train station No. VI

Plymouth would be nice but it might be too far for you...Novi should have plenty of options, but since it's a big city, you'll find a wide range in quality. West Bloomfield/Farmington Hills will be pretty nice as well but all said, I don't know too much about apartments around here. All of my friends either bought houses or rented somewhere near Royal Oak/Troy.

Welcome to Michigan, regardless. 🙂

I like Wixom area - looked at a house there myself.

The BEST way I've found to locate a place to live is drive around the general area you want to live. When you're in an area that particularly peaks your interest (maybe it is a store, restaurant, a park, who knows), stem your search from that central location and find a place next to it. It has been excellent results both times for me.

Yeah I've talked to several. Everyone that rents lives or recommends the same place or two which I've checked out but are full. And everyone recommends strongly against the shady one. Wherever I end up probably try and do a 6 month lease and look out to get into one of the places where coworkers recommend or live.

But yeah just wanted to find out about the area and whatnot.

Yeah all the areas around seem pretty nice though. And I've been stopped in traffic on the freeway in construction and I hate that crap but longs I stay in this area any commute shouldn't be more than 15-20 min.

Go to the ExtendedStay hotel in Novi. You can pay weekly or even monthly rates and it will be a LOT cheaper than paying $80/night. Good luck in your apt search... I really don't know anything about apts in that area.

I've lived in Northville/Novi most of my life. And I just moved to an apartment in Novi after being in Royal Oak for a year.

It's not cheap to rent anywhere in Detroit right now, but it seems like especially in the Novi area. A lot of people here aren't used to renting, as they've been forced out of their houses. There are lots of very nice houses for rent in the Northville/Novi area, if that's your kind of thing.

I didn't spend a ton of time looking in this area, because it's on the very edge of where I'd be okay with the commute. So I've never looked in Wixom. Farmington Hills and South Lyon are pretty nice areas as well. My place is at 10 and Novi and I'm pretty happy with it. Lots of Asians and families renting here compared to what I'm used to. The online reviews of pretty much any place will suck, so I wouldn't let that turn you off right away.

Singh has some pretty nice properties in Novi that I looked at, one near Grand River and Novi and the other at Novi and 13 or 14, I forget. Not cheap and a little too far north for me, but they might be worth checking out.

Anyways, welcome. The 96/696/275 area is a great spot to be in and it's convenient to get pretty much anywhere.
