apartment wireless issue

I just moved into an apartment where internet is provided via 802.11b. The issue i am having is that my connection just basically sucks, e.g., i lose connection a couple times an hour, slow transfer speeds, etc. I am using a d link DWl G-510 card for my desktop. I am maybe 200 feet (max) from the AP, however, there are walls in the way and no window in my room which face that direction. Is there any kind of antenna i can use with the card i already have that will get a better connection?

Best thing you could do is to buy yourself an AP which you will point towards the antenna. And you could make a yagi antenna which will boost your transfer rate enormously. Contact me if you need a scheme for buildig a yagi!

Yagi is probably to focused. Probably need the home-made parabolic reflector thing. Or, get an external antenna that has alot of power. Or, get an amplifier for that external antenna.

Powered external antenna are too expensive. They're like over $100 new!

Those parabolic reflectors are okay, but they're an eyesore.

A yagi would be his best bet. A stand would be a good idea since he could fine tune the aim of the antenna.

I was wondering if one of these antennas would work for what i need? Keep in mind i do not have a window facing the ap. Thanks for the help
