Apartment still smells like smoke

So due to my inability to correctly read directions while being distracted by a phone call, I overcooked some food in the microwave by a factor of almost three. I was still on the phone until about a minute before the timer ended.

When I walked into the kitchen there was white smoke billowing out of the microwave and filling up the room. I opened the microwave and a massive cloud emanated from the cavity. I ran through the apartment and opened windows in every room as high as possible, and opened the back patio door and waited outside for a few minutes.

I came back in when it cleared up a bit. I ran the smoldered food under cold tap water, bagged it and threw it down the trash chute. I left all those windows open as high as they could go for over an hour, then closed everything up for bedtime.

Tonight when I got back in, the place was still smelling of smoke. Not sure what the source of the smell is, or how to get rid of it - any ideas?

Got no fans. I have wiped the microwave out, but it wouldn't hurt to do a more thorough cleaning. And I believe I do have air fresheners.

Clear any surfaces of ash or anything that may have settled with the smoke and use febreeze or lysol twice a day until the smell passes

Oddly enough, I do have one and it usually goes off if I overcook in the oven. May be time for a fresh new battery in it (since this weekend is daylight savings time and all).

Does it have a test button?

See...my group's senior year project could have prevented this. However, no company wanted to fund it. Maybe I should just quit my new job and just work on funding my senior year project. I know I would have atleast one person who would buy it.

Something similar happened to me a little while back.

I came home after a night of heavy drinking, threw some pizza in the oven, then woke up about 6 hours later to the smell of charred food and smoke. Needless to say the pizza was a complete write-off and my place smelled of smoke for a solid week.

I cleaned everything this best I could, left windows open, and sprayed a tonne of Febreeze every day and eventually the smell went away.

Well, that's 2 people who would buy into my groups idea. Man, I need to get the group together and make some money!

I think so, I'll have to check it when I'm home.

You could also try defecating on the carpet for a few days. That would probably get rid of the smoke odor.

I have two cats, and they occasionally cover both those tasks adequately.
