Apartment residents, where do you keep your tools?

No garage, no basement. I have common household tools in the kitchen drawer, tech stuff in boxes under the computer desk, toolbox and drill/screwdriver/saw in the hall closet, drawers of small parts on the shelf above the washer-dryer, electrical stuff in the pantry and so on.

Love to have it all organized together, but can't figure out where. Suggestions?

my dad kept his in storage...which was robbed 🙁 He did get a fat insurance check, but many of his tools were "specialty items" which insurance did not cover.

I have a steel tool cabinet under my microwave in the kitchen and a tool box under my computer desk.

One wheeled chest each for:
Electronics tools
Hand tools
Art tools (this includes the airbrush and paints)

They all line up neatly on the bottom of my closet. No door so I just pull 'em out as I use them and put them back when I'm done. It's kind of a drag that I have no real space or workshop buuuuut I stay extremely organized out of necessity.

I'm not in an apartment, but mechanical type tools stay in my Jeep. Having them in a box won't help if I'm broken down on the side of the road. I keep a couple routine use tools in a kitchen drawer; hammer, pliers, screwdrivers... Computer stuff goes in a cheap laptop bag I got from Woot, and the rest is in tool boxes in the basement.

My apartment has a fairly sizable storage closet thing outside.

Also, agree about not doing my own apartment maintenance or whatever. I don't really have many tools.

I didn't really say so, but I don't know that having everything together is the best way to organize. It sounds like your system now is pretty good. You don't need to be digging through torque wrenches, jack planes, and ViseGrips, when you need a jewelers screwdriver for the computer. Keep things together that logically go together. They all don't have to be in the same place though.

Yes, yes, yes. Think of places of storage as "zones". If I use this tool in this zone, it resides in the same area

I have a pretty sizeable tacklebox type tool box in the closet for most of my tools, a metal briefcase and soft sided leather book like case for my microelectronics tools that stays in a desk drawer. I also have a small set of useful tools in a nylon bag the trunk of my car.

I typically had a closet that had all my tools. Bigger tools (socket set, wrenches, hammer, etc) were in a smallish steel toolbox. I had some more commonly used tools in a small light open top thing to carry them around. My smaller tools and/or more delicate stuff like my jeweler's screwdrivers (in their own case), multimeter, soldering iron and other stuff are stored in plastic bins. All these toolboxes and things are stored on a set of wire shelves in the closet of the guest bedroom.

I don't do "too" much in terms of apt maintenance, but I am a tinkerer, and I fix my own cars - so I do have a sizable tool collection.

2BR apt for a married couple, no kids. I have been given the "laundry room" for my tools, which is barely sufficient. I have a good sized toolbag that has the typical screwdrivers/basic small socket set/ratcheting driver and bits, wire cutters/crimpers/terminals, heat shrink/gun, gas soldering iron/solder, spare network cables, ferrule tool, crescent, vice grips, small box end wrenches.

I also have a small and large tool "chest" type box in the large box is the larger tools (1/2" ratchets, deep sockets, anything >16mm) torque wrench, brake tools, large wrenches, hammers, cheater bar, breaker bars, torch, and anything automotive specialty stuff.
The smaller one has 1/4" and 3/8" ratchets and sockets, most of the rest of the screwdrivers, small automotive stuff (hubcap lock tool, torx bits, etc)
Anything else gets put in various bins and buckets that go on the shelf. Wife continuously nags me about that space I can never keep it clean and organized enough for her.

I'd love an outside closet on the patio, but I'd be afraid somone would walk off with the whole thing.
