can you sublet to someone else?

Wouldnt the ex have to agree since she is on the leese too?

I'm not too sure on the rules but I have seen the situation where the person who moves out gets back at the other person by subletting to the rudest, most disgusting vile human ever. Its your half of the apartment and I'm pretty sure you can sublet to whoever you want provided there isn't a "you can't sublet" clause in your lease.

What did you do to make her so bitter?
Broke up with her.

Craigslist. Free half of apartment till August. Only those with criminal records, poor hygiene, and loud friends need apply.

lol. Even though that would be hilarious, how can a good hearted person do that. I would be afraid she would get murdered or something. Alas...

Send her a certified letter stating that she has an obligation to ask the landlord to sublease the apartment at which point she needs to move or that she can find a roommate. Either way you intend to stop paying until she does one or the other.

I have no idea if that will be legal, but it might scare her into doing one or the other.

Hmm... I will need to contact manager of complex about sublet.

.

Do onto others as they have done onto you, preferably 10 folds as they have done onto you.

I have been in this exact situation before.

Get in touch with your landlord immediately, and find out how to end your lease early. The penalty for ending mine was very small; a $50 fee.

DO NOT PAY FOR YOUR HALF IF YOU'RE NOT LIVING THERE.

Grow some balls.

You can end your lease early only if they have somebody else wanting to live there.

When I moved out of the apartment I was sharing before the lease was up, my landlord said I was SOL for getting out of the lease that I'd signed, even though my ex was staying in the apartment still. Yay for paying two leases.

Man up and keep paying on the lease you signed. 😛

Unless, of course, you can find a way out of it. 😀

Read the lease. There is someway out of it. Of course the landlord will tell you to pay up.

Or sublease the apartment to another person.

If you want to submit to ass-raping for your entire life, sure, go ahead and give in, pull down your pants and take it.

Jeez, a lot of passive people here. SUBLET YOUR FSCKING APARTMENT or pull a Vince Vaughn (ugh I hate that I'm referencing "The Breakup") and move back in.

Bingo was his name-o.

Perhaps you didn't read the part about him living 6 hours away from the apartment now.

I don't think the OP should be bitching so much about the situation, considering August really isn't that far off. At least you're not locked into a multi-year lease or something.

Great suggestions but the OP will not take any of them. Why even create this post then? Sounds like you will just have to pay up and take this as a lesson learned, you shoulda thought about this before moving away.

True. Most kids on here are spineless when it comes to standing up for themselves in real life.

Yeah, because I'm sure he wants to pay almost $1700 for it.

and where the heck did you get $1700 from? I havent seen that amount posted anywhere in this thread. For all we know it could be $750, or it could be 5K

why did you move 6 hrs away?

Then check your state housing laws.

If you're a student, solicit some pro-bono advice from an attorney that most colleges/universities make available to their students.

You guys don't want to put in any legwork to make the situation better, yet you'll easily put in the hours at work each day so you can pay for an apartment you won't be living in because you can't stand toe-to-toe with your ex.

Brilliant!

I'd move back in. Bring hot chicks over, throw wild orgy parties. Make her life a living hell. Maybe then she will let you out of the lease.
