Apartment dwellers: laundry etiquette?

I woke up at 7 am to get an early start on laundry. At that time the washers were full (there are 3). Ok fine, came back at 8 and they were still full. They only take a half hour to run, so I made a mental note to come back at 9. I did so and the same loads were in there.

Ok screw it. I do some other stuff and head back at 1:30. Washers were finally empty. I put 3 loads in and set an alarm for 30 minutes. I just went to put my clothes in the dryer and guess what? Those same clothes are now sitting in the dryer.

So I pulled them out and put them in a pile on top of the dryers since that person has no concept of time.

Was I rude or were they?
 
They're rude for sure. They don't own the machines, they have no right to keep their crap in there past the wash/dry time.

There's a reason I wash my stuff at midnight or 5AM in the morning. I use 2 washer/dryer every time. 2 hours from start to finish. I've never seen anybody else competing for the machines at those ours.
 
No you were not rude. Same situation as you, I made enemies with a neighbor of mine when I touched his clothing sitting in the washer for hours, preventing me from using them. I moved them to a laundry table and the guy practically flipped out when he saw me touching his clothing. I think I posted a thread about this once a while ago.
 
They or you should put up a sign similar to what most laundromats have that says if you are not attending your laundry, anyone has a right to remove them.
 
If all the machines are full (but finished) and I need to use them, I simply take out an obstructing finished load and pile it on top of whatever machine I need. Washer or dryer. Worst case scenario their clothing gets a little air-dried.

They were rude, and you were right to move their stuff. It isn't like it was five minutes after their load ended or if they were still in the room moving over another load.

Also, you may want to consider getting an apartment with a washer/dryer hookup. Barring that, one of THESE and a drying rack.
 
There's a reason my #1 priority when looking at apartments is included washer/dryer. I can't stand that shit.
 
So exactly 45 minutes after I put my clothes in, I got them out. Guess what was still sitting on top of the dryer?
