Apartment complex parking etiquettes. Or am I just too anal?

Having the car towed is a good idea. Insurance doesn't cover losses deemed to be a result of illegally parked vehicles...since it does not qualify as a theft. He will not only be paying towing charges but also storage fees (which can be quite expensive).

Have you actually left a note on his car like

"I just moved into unit A and this is my parking spot. Please park somewhere else in the future. thank you"

?

Think about it, if even 2 of those apartments were a couple you'd be out of spaces. Yet alone Joe Dirt with three cars.

I'd tell the landlord you want you money back for any fees and to be released from the lease. I'd also beat the crap out of this guy parking in my space esp having asked nicely already....you saying he parks their only when you are not home is an oxymoron 😉....if you're in the space you're in the space.

Come back when you have pics of him knocked out. 🙂

You haven't lived in very many college towns near campus, have you? It is the exact same way here. This apartment complex has about 20 apartments and 20 parking spaces. Not a single one more. A parking space goes for about $900 a year in any of the garages near campus.

Yup, that's what I'd do. Sounds like the best way to handle it, and if he keeps doing it, go to the landlord.

We have guests of giant student housing tenants parking right in front of the fire hydrant in front of our building. Sometimes encroaching into 1/4 of our driveway.

The hydrant is quite visible and it has "do not park" yellow tape surrounding it 4' on each side. Anyone w/ a driver's license would know that parking in front of a hydrant overnight is unacceptable.

Why should I have to put up with them if they can't put up with parking a few blocks away?
Those who parks there will get a immediate tow.

People have no respect for anyone else or their property anymore. Don't be surprised if he shovels his car out of the snow and piles the snow up behind your car. (assuming it snows where you live)

Here's what I'd do:

1. leave a note. record plate #.
2. leave a note for each new vehicle i see in my spot
3. same vehicle again, it will be immediately towed.

leave a note. if he still doesn't, talk to him. if that doesn't get anywhere, just buy a hummer and roll over his other two cars 😛 ok, so maybe the last option is a little drastic, so talk w/ the lanlord instead

Yeah... that's a little drastic... use a tank.

Why even go talk to him?
If you leave a note, he acknowledged someone is not happy and he is now aware that he's in someone else's spot.

I don't really want to complain to the landlord because he's been here so long that everyone knows him well. I don't want to be hated on by everyone cuz I snitched on him.
Obviously, he's taking advantage that you're new and everybody knows him well. 😛 Like most everyone else, my advice is to let him know and if that doesn't work itself out, follow up with the landlord. Since the spots are marked, I can't see how the landlord can find it in the neighbor's favor.

I went to University of Florida I guess it's not so big...I lived a 5 min bike ride from campus...I always had a space. My friends always had spaces for me to park on Friday night party nights except maybe twice when I parked on the grass (there were spaces far far away but the place gets cold).

I have flat out clocked (no KO 🙁 ) someone in my front yard quite recently....I'd be an idiot to take a picture of that though. If my wife posted here she'd probably be begging you guys to get me help 🙂.

When I lived at home it was the worst....twice people tried to 'scare' me by following me home. We had a resident and visitor section at our gate....the resident section took forever because it's a real gate that slides open and then a pole raises. I'd go on the visitor side which just had a pole and a guard. The guard knew me so he'd always open the gate ahead of time as I made the turn in....problem was alot of 'residents' would cut me off at the turn to beat me to the gate. When I just rolled in and beat them, they'd follow me.

Anyways, instead of pulling in my driveway, I'd turn into the oncoming lane as if I was turning wide into my driveway and then block both lanes and get out of my car.

More often than not you'd hear them peeling out in reverse and going back the way they came....a couple times (2 times literally) some schmuck got out of his car trying to intimidate me. Both times I ended the crap with a shove or slap across their face if they pushed me first....crap stopped. One time my dad witnessed it...(the shove).

Call the towing company every time his car is in your spot. At $200 each time, he'll stop parking there quick.

Unless you hold the deed no tow company will tow it. Or are a known representative of the property owner.

Best solution is move bambam. Things like this can escalate and before you know it cops are there.
