Apartment complex noise

The guy below me was playing his stereo last night pretty loud around 3 am. I could hear the base and my friend and I kinda had a hard time falling asleep. This apartment complex is a very family-oriented quiet one. In fact, I never ever hear my other neighbors, nor do I know they even exist.

I ignored last night, but this morninig I woke up to his base again. Now, it's 11:30. He doesn't do this during the week for the most part. Just ALL weekend.

Can I say something? And if so, can I do it in a few days, so it doesn't seem like I'm being a complete ass? Something like "Hey man, if at all possible, would you mind lowing your sub woofer a little bit?"

That crap happened to me on Friday! Dumbass bitches had a phat party that started at 7pm and lasted till 4 am, at least that's when I was finally able to fall asleep.

You lease probably has an agreement that states quiet hour is from 10 pm to 8 am, at least that's what every lease I have signed states. It 's a state law in CA, not that it's actually enforced

I can deal with noise if it's just one night in a weekend or something. Not consistently. I would definitely go talk to this guy.

Not to be pedantic, but its BASS not base.

You come off sounding like a whiny, little, ninny. You live in an apartment building! Get over it, or move to a house where you can whine about your neighbors in a separate building. Then you can move to the burbs where the houses are further apart, but im sure you would still find something to whine about.

I am in a similar situation right now. I have lived in my current basement apartment for 2 years and for the most part like it. New owners recently acquired the building and the new tennants above me are 3 young guys and when they walk it is boom boom boom not to mention the floor above my bedroom has some serious squeaks which the owners did not repair when they renovated the building. I have asked them one time if they would try to remember there are people living below them. I don't think they care. I even let them have unlimited use of my wireless internet signal when they asked me,free of charge. So today i shut the signal of and will call the owners Monday and complain. Pretty much sucks. Because i may have to move and that is a pain.

ps actually i forgot they offered 20.00 per month which i acepted. still a good deal.

you can't be serious... just because you live in an apartment doesn't mean you have to hear someone's bass or loud music.

Talk to the guy.... dont go above his head unless you are a prick or you've already talked to him and he wont comply

Why talk to the management if it can be solved by simply asking him nicely. All you'll do is piss him off. People are generally considerate if you are polite.

90% of the time this works. If it doesn't, then go to the apartment manager.

Exactly, apartment living imposes limitations on All of the tenants behavior. Just like life does.

if you go to management or the building super, just make sure he isn't friends or buddy buddy with them

the fat guy below me was a prick and complained about the level of noise BEFORE I EVEN MOVED IN 2 years ago. i wasn't even moved in when he complained, and never go to my apartment or move things around after 8pm. the day i was moving in, the prick and his wife told my friends (who were helping me move in) that we made too much noise around midnight the week before, and they went to the super after that. well little does he know that the super is also the guy i used for my renovations and we have a good relationship, if anybody was in my apartment at midnight it would be the super doing some last minute work (not to mention the idiot below rents and doesn't own the place, he should be talking to his landlord instead of the super anyway)

so after i moved in i bought the new logitech Z5500 and turn up the subwoofer everyday. i don't make noise at night for the sake of my other neighbors. but for a person to go above my head and complain about the noise when no one was even living there is pretty stupid.

Every apartment lease has conditions on noise. Most have a condition that between 10:00PM and 8:00AM you can make no noise that can be heard in neighboring apartments.

A party or loud stereo until 3:00AM without the permission of your neighbors is completely unacceptable.

Your attitude would quickly get you evicted.

Any apartment I've lived in all the tenants pretty much agreed to keep it quiet during the week, and do whatever the hell you want on the weekend. I'd say your lucky he's being nice and not playing music all week.

Personally I hated people like manybeers who bitched about every little noise and forget you live in a crappy apartment and you're going to hear everything. How the hell can you complain about squeaks and people walking? I once had a conversation through my floor with the people that lived below me without even raising my voice.

The key here is mutual agreement. If you have a neighbor that works on the weekends and needs to sleep, obviously that agreement will be somewhat different.

And yes, you cannot complain about normal noise levels such as walking, talking and TVs at reasonable levels between 10 and 8. However, late night stereos and parties should be at the agreement of your neighbors.

His TV is at reasonable levels. I hear it but it does not bother me in the slightest. I could care less if he turned the TV up all the way. Its the bass that bothers the hell out of me.

I'm in the same sorta situation with upstairs neighbors walking around like a bunch of clydesdales. Talk to your landlord and document everything just incase you need to break your lease you will have a leg to stand on.

Maybe because i have given 3 guys free unlimited internet access. Doesn't that deserve some consideration
I have lived here for 2 years with neighbors above me and in all that time i only complained one time to a guy who for some reason was doing weight lifting at 2:30 in the morning. I went up and knocked on the door and he stopped. I don't complain about every little thing. I think the noise level produced by their heavy walking is excessive. But i know where your coming from. They got rights too.

And one other thing, I personally feel that the squeaky floor situation should be a violation of multi-unit apartments and should be illegal. I believe it is irresponsible on the part of the owners to allow the condition. at all. But that is just me.

I now wear earplugs at night to attenuate the squeak sounds made by the excessively loud and annoying loose floor boards when the guy above my bedroom moves around. The floors should not squeak in an apartment building if multi-storied. A responsible owner would not allow the condition in the first place.
