This may or may not be Crucial...the product description only says it has "Micron" memory. Big difference. The chips are only part of the equation. There are other vital pieces to making quality memory, manufacturing process, PCB, testing, etc.

I know because I made a similar purchase a couple of years for memory touted as "highest quality Micron" PC133 memory. Well the chips were Micron but that was the only thing that was high quality. The memory was barely stable at CL3 and forget about bumping up the FSB. If you can get name brand memory for only 15-20% more per stick...don't even think twice.

I guess I should have indicated in my original post that everyone who has ordered from CnetPC has received Crucial memory complete with Crucial part numbers that match what Crucial sells on their website. While there is no guarantee that everyone is getting Crucial, all replies in the thread on the deal indicate Crucial.

I certainly do remember those sticks, RobsTV. Apacer was very sought after and I had a couple sticks that performed flawlessly. Based on past performance, I'd certainly have no problem buying it.

This is slightly OT but was hoping someone would have some insights on what appears to be an incompatibility issue between Crucial 512MB DIMMs and Asus A7N8X mobos? I started to pick up grumblings on this and went to the Crucial site and saw that the 512MB units are no longer listed within the recommended DIMMs for this mobo. Continued to poking around on Newegg sites and there are several references to same problems with any nForce2 mobos. Seems like the 2700 DDR will only run stable if it is clocked down to 2100. Makes me wonder if that would also be the case with the Apacer. The only reason I am considering a RAM upgrade was to do some OC'g with my new Asus system with the faster 166/333 FSB. Anyone know more about this?

I'm really tempted to try out this Apacer stuff. Or should I go with Dane-Elec? It seems like their PC2700 modules use WinBond chips which I heard was good (but I personally don't like the sound of that name -- reminds me of some cheap serial/parallel cards I had in the old 486 days). Infineon (on the Apacer module) sounds way cooler.
