Apacer 16GB AH320 Flash Drive $19.50 shipped, NO MIR

Since Anandtech block the supermediastore web link, I will not put the link here. Just go to their website, find that AH320 16GB, $29.99 before the coupon. Apply the 35% off coupon: MET35P, the final price is $19.50.

The read/write speed is about 29/16 MB/s.

It uses a Phison chipset, so you can do the mass production trick. See the post here:

The read/write speed information is from other user reviews on a Chinese forum because Apacer is a major brand on their market. They did a lot of mass production on AH320 and posted speed test results. Some had 26MB/s write speed even. I will go with the conservative numbers.

Oh...... I hope that this is not the case either

I guess if the performance doesn't hold up then I'll be out $5 for return shipping and 15% restocking fee. I have no interest in 16GB USB drive that only has 3MB/Sec or around 80 minutes to fill it up (forget smaller files)

Fingers crossed

Instead of eating the costs returning it, you might just consider selling (I may be interesting in taking it off yours hands, even if they are dog slow). Hopefully they're faster than 10/3, though. I did some searching on Google and came by a review that said writing a 100MB file took about 14s, which is about 7MB/s. Not horrible, but not great either.

But then the Apacer China website has a bunch of benchmarks showing it being quite a bit faster than that (closer to the OP's specs of 29/16), so I don't know.

And this is more in line with the 7MB/s writes, ATTO shows about 22/8 here.

Using Bart's Stuff test on my laptop ( http://www.nu2.nu/bst/ ), I'm getting 9.5 to 10.5 MB/sec write, and 29-30MB/sec read.

Since Apacer does not manufacture its own flash memory and, instead, buys the chips from third party manufacturers, the specifications on the website are "nominal". That means you're GUARANTEED 10/3, but, depending on what chips your particular drive has, it may be quite a bit faster.

All in all, I'm happy. Thanks OP 🙂

sooo.. my interest just got sparked on all these 16gb flash drives.. at 30$ they are lame but around 10-18$ would be nice.. what is another one that performs better? i guess ill go read.. i know class 6 is better than 4..

Class 6 / Class 4 is in regard to SDHC flash cards. I've never seen that terminology referring to USB flash drives.

Mine showed up today. ATTO is showing about 27/11 for large reads and writes. Definitely not too shabby, I'm pretty happy for the price. Haven't messed around with setting it up as a USB-CDROM, but will update the thread if I run into problems.

Mine arrived today as well.

I'm seeing 10/25 with ATTO and not too bad for the smaller files. Definitely a keeper and good value for a cheaper flash drive. The other OCZ Dual Channel 16GB gives 14.5/27 and was almost double the price for comparison.

I'll set this up as a dual CDROM + 15GB Flash drive.

Thanks for sharing the deal!

I'm hoping that the link at the beginning:-

http://forums.anandtech.com/me...=2241930&enterthread=y

will do this; but I'll save this for the weekend.

Ok...... I had no luck either with the above link.
Everything went well until the "Get Info" to flash the drive and it said the drive could not be found. I tried the following INI file:-

[Customize Info]
USB VID=0x1005
USB PID=0xB113
String Product Name=16GB
String Manufacturer Name=Apacer
Inquiry Version=PMAP
[Configuration]
Reset Serial Number=0
[Extra]
Mode=21
[Misc]
Privacy Volume Label=USB DISK CD
CDROM Image=H:\Reinstall\Download\ubcd411.iso

Will continue in the other thread........
