Not many details yet, but MSNBC has announced that according to AP, a very suspicious site was discovered south of Baghdad where they found thousands of vials of white powder along with atropine, gas masks, and information on chemical warfare. Looking forward to more info and detail on this.

Per Carl Rochelle (NBC reporter at the Pentagon), these were found at a weapons and munitions plant that had been bombed back in 1991, and was also visited a number of times by UN inspectors, as recently as mid Feb of this year. Unknown if these cartons were present at that time.

I've a hunch the white powder might actually turn out to be ABC Deko-pulver, which was formerly employed by the German Bundeswehr and other European NATO forces during the 70s and 80s for individual decon. We'll find out.

David Bloom (from MSNBC, with the 3rd ID) is reporting now that nothing unusual was actually found at this site, that it was simply conventional weapons that were found. Sounds like the truth is still waiting to be known and verified here. Looking forward to hearing more details.

It may be a little while before we find the actual stores of chemical munitions; as Brooks stated in the CENTCOM briefing today, we're in the combat phase of the operation, working towards the goal of removing the regime from power. Once that is accomplished, much more serious effort, intelligence, and resources can be put towards finding those stores, and that's when we'll really get to see just what Saddam was hiding from the world. Or we may well get lucky and find a smoking gun or two before then, so who knows?
