AP or Honors class?

ummm...the reason why your AP Euro. Hist. didn't count is because you got a 2...

I honestly think it depends on how the GPA system is set up at her school. At mine, it's .5 for honors and 1 for AP. If I took English honors and aced it, i'd get 4.5, but if i took something like AP Lit or AP Language/Comp i'd get 5, not to mention the ability to possibly get college credit. I don't know why she'd get into a hard class like AP bio without knowing it would be insanely difficult. In fact, i'm working on a coloring diagram for AP bio. I knew how big the pile of crap that i'm jumping into is, and she should've.

btw, taking ap bio (as i said), ap lit, and ap american hist.

none of my classes were ever weighted in high school, otherwise I probably would have been higher in my grade

*note, I am not complaining, I was pretty high anyway, but keep in mind that not all schools weight the averages, so check that out ahead of time

Wow, my weighted grades is:
+1 for Honors
+1.5 for AP (Just changed this year)

So it's possible to get a 5.5 GPA...

My school also had weighted grades for Honors/AP (Honors and AP were the same, for classes that we didn't offer an AP course, then you took honors). Therefore, while I was a straight B/C student, I had a 3.9 GPA since all my Bs were 4s and all my Cs were 3s.

I was once faced with a similar choice. If I had taken the normal non-AP US History, I would have had to take the class with the teacher I had for the past 2 years, whom I absolutely despised. His tests were questions about useless footnotes in the book, and not about the important stuff.
The alternative teacher was well known for being extremely strict, and not at all tolerant of slackers who didn't do their homework (like me). I figured either way I was screwed, might as well get a weighted grade for it, and maybe test out on the AP test.

I got As from this teacher for both US1 and US2. I got a 4 on the AP test, despite never considering history to be my strong suit. The teacher that everyone was always so scared of turned out to be a brilliant man. The work was hard, but it was interesting and meaningful. He didn't care about stupid footnotes, he cared about the big picture. He was one of the best teachers he ever had.

I say she should stick it out. Be resolute.

It doesn't matter what or how many AP classes you take. Sure, it looks good on your transcript, but it's all about the results of the AP TEST. I can take all the AP classes in the world but when it comes to the test, that's the real result. If you do really well on an AP test, then some classes will be wavied in college. I've seen many students take AP courses and they didn't even have the guts to take the AP test. I've also seen my friend achieve a 3.8 GPA. You know what he got on his SAT's? 720. THAT'S RIGHT. 720. He got a 3.8GPA and achieved a 720 on the SAT. I admit try to do your best to make your transcript look good. But in the long run, it doesn't matter cause if you can't pass the entrance exams for your particular college or acheive a certain amount on the SAT's for THAT particular college, your GPA don't mean sh!t. You'll be stuck in remedial classes which results in wasting a semester or two. I know cause I've experienced it. I've wasted about 2 semester for math and 1 semester for English. It's my third semester and I'm finally in English 1A. After finishing up this semester, I'll only have 29 units. 29 units for 3 semesters? The average student gets 45 units after their third semester. So I've wasted a lot. When you guys get ready for college, you better concentrate on the core subjects like math and english. You don't want to be wasting time like me on remedial courses. It wastes your money and your time and you graduate at a later date which sucks.

How do you get 720 on your SATs?

I took and passed these APs:

10th grade - Art History
11th grade - U.S. History <-- hardest class for me ever, so much damn reading, Studio Art (general portfolio)
12th grade - Studio Art (drawing portfolio), English Language, Calculus (also hard), Psychology <-- funnest class

i took Hon Chem in 10th grade in HS... the class was easy as hell, I slept through lectures and did all the labs, and managed a B for the year, with minimal effort. On the final, I didnt even use a calculator, and turned in the 50 question final in 5 minutes, and got a 88%....

the class was a breeze....now as for AP Physics....that is hell

Psychandy: let me clarify -- yes I know that, but Euro History won't count towards my major even if i got a 5 in the AP test.
It will still count as a college class with 4 or 3 units (depends if you are in semester or quarter system), but it will Not effect eventually of how many class I will have to take in college. (meaning, I will not have one less class to take, whereas if I took AP Bio I will not have to take it)

Getting a C in any class in HS is your own fault. Get her a tutor or a study partner.
