Reading the recap of the Mavs/Kings game, the article states:

"Dallas shot just 0-for-9 from 3-point range in the first half and finished 8-of-15, a night after making 19 of 42, an NBA playoff record for attempts."

anyone see something wrong with that? :)

Nevermind. Here I am thinking grammar, then I notice the obvious error in math. :D

I don't see what is wrong... they shot 8/24 one night, and 19/42 the other night.... is that not right? "A night after making 19 of 42", they're not saying 0/9 + 8/15 = 19/42.

Am I retarded or what are you getting at?

"Dallas shot just 0-for-9 from 3-point range in the first half and finished 8-of-15"

Basically, if Dallas was 0 for 9 and finished 8 of 15, that means they made 8 out of their last 6 shots :)

I agree with you. They're saying the night ended 8/15... not that the 2nd half was 8/15.

This is definitely somebody's reading comprehension at it's finest.

For the people who miss it: 0/9 in the first half and finished 8/15. How could they possibly do that? Think about it.

ah, I see how you are reading it. When I saw finished 8-15, I assumed, those were the final statistics for the game hence starting off 0-9 would not be possible. your way makes sense though. the final stats were probably 8-24. The way they wrote it was just not very specific

hahaha....looking at the box score, the 8 for 15 was actually what the Mavericks did from the Free Throw line, not the 3 point line (they were 3-20 from 3 point range)

so someone can't write and can't copy stats from the box score :)

yah, I realize that. I guess the title of the thread is a little misleading. I just meant I read the article on espn.com. wasn't trying to make fun of anyone in particular, just thought the writing was a little off and I found it kinda funny so I posted it here.

The way I read it, I took "finished 8/15" to mean what they did in the second half. 0/9 in the first, 8/15 in the second. That's what confused me, had no idea what you meant. :)

I doubt these wire services are really edited carefully before going out. It's about speed isn't it?

I didn't think you were bashing ESPN, but I have a few friends that can't stand ESPN and will nit pick everything from ESPN. Just in case you were, I wanting to point out it's AP and on many different websites today (ex. cbs.sportsline).

I agree, though, pretty horribly checked stats there. I bet his co-workers are giving him all crap about it all day.
