I'm trying to help a friend with a problem. She has had repeated problems with her DVD-ROM drive. It was serviced first by the manufacturer, who replaced the drive. It functioned properly for about a month. After the next failure, she took the computer to a local repair service to diagnose the problem. They returned the computer claiming nothing was wrong with the it. This is where I come into the picture. Her computer always hangs after Windows loads when a CD-ROM drive is installed, preventing any programs from being run. Actually, it appears to be running a high priority program using 100% of CPU resources, preventing anything else from executing. The computer will start and run normally without a CD-rom installed as well as when in safe mode. Does anyone have suggestions about what I should do next? I've already uninstalled all known drivers, removed software that could be causing conflicts.
