Aopen CDRW Prob - Error Log!

Grrrr....

Aopen CDRW 1232a worked for 2 months, then started burning coasters... CDs with readable directories, but the files all throw CRC errors. Updated the ROM to 1.11, tried different speeds, different brands of discs, etc. Discs all look written to.

Anybody have any ideas? Aopen told me to return it to the reseller I bought it from. :disgust: I bought it at a show, and don't remember who it was (can't find receipt anyway).

I'm about ready to tear it open and start re-soldering all the connections to the laser...

Here's a link to the error log generated by Nero 5.5.

Have you tried a differen IDE channel? Its a long shot but who knows. Oh yeah use a known good IDE cable.

Other than that I don't know. I had a CD-RW in a compaq do the same thing. But after a month of it burning dead data it totaly died and now can only read CDs.

Also is it possible to put this into another machine? I usually hate telling people to do something like this becuase one not everyone has another machine laying around and two its a pain in the ....

I hope this helps some.

Atleast you had a tooless case. 🙂 So the drive doesnt work in the other machine either. 🙁 Looks to be dead.

I wish I could help you more.

I know its not the same thing exactly and it doesnt really solve ur prob (short of buying a new one), but i had the same problem with a Phillips 16x10x40 CDRW drive i bought, which i manages to burn a music CD with, and bout 2 data cds, but within 3/4 weeks or so the burning capactiy died, but the wierd thing is it still read CDs fine. Just dont write nemore.

Good luck

Thanks guys... I found a thread on MSI's site about some of the newer motherboards having problems like this PLUS crc errors when copying large files from cd to hard drive or viseversa...

I flashed my bios with the latest version (1.9 for my k7t266pro). After I did that I couldn't read my hd!!! Grrr...

Copied my data to my son's PC, reformatted, and haven't tried to burn anything yet... But I'm thinking it may be a mboard or driver prob... I'll post again when I've got something.

I can't see anything. Then again thats probably the 3rd nero log file I have ever seen! I usually don't burn anything but ISO images and i use a powertool from microsoft for that. 🙁

Tried disabling DMA for the drive yet? If you mentioned that already excuse me for scanning instead of thoroughly reading posts 🙂

You're right, I didn't mention it. But I did throw it into PIO mode both in XP and in the BIOS. 🙁 No luck.

I've given up. I just wish Aopen would take the drive back. But they only deal with the "channel" since they don't retail burners. They sell them rebadged as other brands. Sigh.

I've found someone here that will sell me an old 2x SCSI burner for $10. I'll use that as my "WHEN I NEED IT EVEN IF HALF MY SYSTEM GOES DOWN" drive. LoL

I have a feeling my wifee is buying me a new one too. I keep telling her not to do it without me, but...

Thanks!

Musta been a holiday thing. 😉

Aopen just got back to me apologizing for forgetting to tell me to RMA the drive. 🙂

WooHoo!

Of course, I just found BLACK LITE-ON 48X BURNERS BRAND NEW FOR $30 ($20 +$10 for shipping) on eBay. Bought one.

😀
