LOL why is posting off AOL accounts bained god I register like 10 free email accounts got 10 names and password to find out that I just need to us a free ISP to is there a reason other then AOL sucks to have banned it from being used here?

---

AOL was banned from AnandTech as BOTH an email address and as an ISP because we were attacked by a very persistant and nasty troll who uses AOL as his base. His idea of fun was to challenge the moderators to see how far he could go in vandalizing our forums. When he was banned, he would just register again under another name and continue his activities and then brag about it on other forums.

Unlike every other major ISP we have dealt with under similar circumstances, AOL repeatedly refused to give us appropriate technical assistance to stop him. Our moderators are unpaid volunteers, and we simply do not have time to deal with irresponsible ISP's such as AOL.

That is why, if you wish to post on AnandTech, it will have to be with another email provider AND from another, hopefully more responsible ISP.

There were some trolls posting on this board that used AOL, and when AOL refused to help the moderators/administrators in taking care of the problem, AOL's IP blocks were promptly banned from posting to the forums here. I'm sure if you use the search feature, you'd be able to dig up the exact post by the moderators regarding the situation.

I don't know the exact definition, but a Troll is someone that goes around and causes trouble on the forums, and then creates another user name here to do the same when his/her first one gets banned from posting. The moderators usually catch on after the first couple of user names, but if the person continues, it ends up being bannings by IP address, and eventually, banning entire ISPs.

I think the message it gives when posting off a banned IP address should be more then what is giving and maybe say post from that IP address is banned not just your are forbein from post here.

In my opinion, that wouldn't be as effective as you think. Yes, it might be more convenient for you knowing that it's the IP block that's banned, and not you yourself that's banned from posting. However, it would also tell the 'trolls' that that's the reason they can't post, telling them they should try from another ISP with a different IP block.

Okay, I have not been using AOL, but recently I have been having some difficulties with my ISP, so I thought I would try my free 300 hours.

And yes, I ran into the same difficulties as this.

So, Iam wondering, is there any chance the ip will be unbanned, or should I just look for a different ISP?

Thanks.
