I am at my folk's house for Christmas, and they have AOL and Dial up.
When I dial in using earthlink, so I can post on AnandTech, AOL starts up anyway!
WTF?
I can't figure out what program is starting it and how to disable it.

That, and I bet they have AOL set as the default web browser and Email. Inside AOL's settings is a way to undo these defaults.

my g/f has AOL, and when I'm on her computer I fire up IE because its better than the crappy AOL browser.

She sees it and spazzes out, thinking IE is some leet haxor interface, and I'm screwing up her internet.

shes pretty hot, (not like a model or anything, but still hot) But shes not an idiot, shes actually very smart, considering going for her PHD next year, shes just not very computer savvy. She teaches college courses, and still uses a paper grade book and a calculator, I keep telling her I'll teach her to save a lot of time by using Excel to do her grades, shes pretty hesitant though.

if they must use aol, they should at least uninstall the software after finding local numbers, and just set it up like a regular dial up connection

I'm pretty sure AOL wont let you do that, they make too much money on Ads they show within their interface.
